It's music, you know? Dum-tsh dum-tsh? Sounds? Into the ears? Dum-tsh?

Progressive [insert-genre-here].

Posted by Munchy on Apr-01-2006 02:53:

Dark Progressive House I say!

Posted by Protege on Apr-01-2006 03:01:

Holden transcends genres. I just call it good ass fucking music.

Posted by fitom tiel on Apr-01-2006 03:03:

techy goodness

Posted by DJ Legs on Apr-01-2006 03:29:

I think that maybe he should have his own genre

Posted by Shade on Apr-01-2006 03:37:

...Why must *everything* have to be labeled by a genre? It's as if categorizing things needlessly is second nature to people. I understand perhaps if you're trying to search for music of the same style, but perrsonally I'm sort of tired of things getting categorized and arguments striking up (not saying this is the case here) just because of categorization.

Not really trying to flame here really, just venting a little. I honestly don't think it's important what genre things are, if you enjoy it, you enjoy it and that's all that matters.

I've always put Border Community in their own genre.

Posted by Zenchowdah on Apr-01-2006 06:19:

his recent remixes of darkest star sounds IDM, almost noise.

Posted by tmdrums17 on Apr-01-2006 10:15:

Over the last 2 or 3 years i vote for IDM... IDM with a beat if such a thing is possible.

Either way... its James Holden... he is the most unique electronic artist around at the moment.

Posted by bamski on Apr-03-2006 05:23:

Holden is one of the few uncategorizable(!!)

Holden defines himself as a Dj/Producer. I think that's all that should matter. I'm tired of all the sub genre of a sub genre of a sub genre dj definition bs. Just let them play the damn music already. As long as it sounds good it doesn't matter what it is.

Its the perfect mariage of house & techno.
Or its house and dub techno with some proggy elements.
What ever you want to name it Its some fucking forward thinking electronic music pushing boundaries genre wise.
Can anybody point out some other artists and labels the are putting out music along those lines.
Thank you

James Holden's style has evolved over the years, His earliest stuff were more progressive trancey housey tracks, His current stuff now is more minimal techy house.

Touche.

Nathan Fake is a perfect example of the Border Community sound. Utterly peculiar yet highly addictive.

His new stuff bores the hell out of me. I doubt i would like him at a club at all.

I loved his darker trance sounds from the mid - late 90's though
