sasha@glow apr 1 review
after crobar, the second installment of sasha this weekend here in dc was out of this world. he started with the perfect amazing and warm set. both uplifting and perky with the melodies leading the way.... same energy and greatness of his axis boston set last year.
surprised and having a great time, i loved every bit of the direction he was going...
then ---
some randoms shit happened, and i thin sasha's monitor fell to the floor. that was the end of maven and the computer for the night. he made a crazy face, the music shut down, and he threw on a cd. sasha was very cool-minded about this and continued to play really good energetic music on cd until 1) the music went off again, he picked up AGAIN and got things back on track until 2) YES, the fucking music went OFF AGAIN. so during sasha's probably top american night of 2006 for me had the music went off 3 times and poor sasha's classic set in the making was silent three times.
he let some opening dj? play and they sort of almost did a tag team thing for the rest of the night. the music was always really good, and the opening guy or whatever played all sasha tracks... i don't know his name, really want to know who he was. jimmy van m was listed as the opener but this was not him. both djs played some really killer music that everyone on this board hasnt realized sasha even had as of late.... i had a great time... and made it a point to cheer sasha on.
down side was the flow of a really awesome set in the making destroyed by the computer mishap then 2 more random music stoppages... wtf is going on? first roseland, now this?
really really good sasha in top form... wish he was able to lay it down the way that it began.
for those that have not liked how sasha has played in new york this year.... i have only this to say --- you will never hear at crobar the uplifting, energetic/clubby sounds of sasha that i have loved in 2005 like his recorded axis boston set... or his glow set last night...
he reacts to new york very differently - and though diggerz changes the way sasha plays.... no diggerz there will not make him play my favorite sasha 2005/2006 sound.
pls post if u know what the hell happened with the tech difficulties... or if u know who the tag teaming guy was...

YOUR FRIENDS
YOU'LL
NEVER BE ALONE AGAIN
it was jimmy... and it wasnt just his monitor, it was his iMac, the whole computer, I watched it tumble, as if in slow-mo right over the edge and on to the floor. no more ableton, and who knows what was happening with the cd decks after that... tune of teh night= "cold drink, hot girl" by jody wisternoff (way out west)... defintely some slick tunes last night.
rock on
n
btw, i still long for my classic sasha sound, 95-96...
noel!!! it was so great seeing you and your lovely girl. i was a little drunk, so my apologies if i said/did anything stupid. haha. nice to see you out at glow like that, hopefully you'll come out more!

my gf was there, and the fucking door staff made her leave her Involver CD at the door and she never got it back.
as well, the frisker told her relentlessly to spit out her gum (which she didnt have any)

why cant sasha just use a controller that works. fucking hell with the maven!
Ive seen sasha 30 or soo times with vinyl/cd's 5 or so times with ableton.... And hes pretty much bored me to death with ableton... The first time he used it he kept using this damn annoying laser effect sound.... Thank god james zabiela was there to save it.... And when the tag teamed for the last 2 hours omg pure bliss..
Interesting. I was there, but left early.

who cares. The maven sucks ass. The prefade on that shit was acting up at his gig at space for confrence.
who cares what happened to the maven at wmc when we're talking about three music stoppages or just reviewing sasha's set IN WASHINGTON DC.
it was not a maven-related problem therefore not relevant in this thread. if u still wanna talk about why u think the maven sucks, i'll just opt out of the discussion. i just wanted to point out that the reason sasha didn't continue on ableton was because of the whole computer falling down as noel sanger has said yesterday.

The level of control he has over ableton with it is just not matched by anything else for sale. Computer based mixing on the whole is still really new...but you know this Harold. Srsly...if I had maven...omg...cream my fuckin pants material.. .you seen how many triggers he has on each side of the faders, the effects control he has? Try doin that shit with an x-session...pshs ![]() I'll agree with frost that he over-uses the same effects alot...it gets really anoying :/ |
crobar must suck since he always plays better sets elsewhere...

Its only a matter of time now before everyone really sees how boring Sasha is. His older shit rocked and I think its simply because he was way more involved with his sets. Now its point click drag drop blah blah blah aaaaaaaaaaaaah my computer froze what do I do now?!?!?!?!?!
Vinyl and Cd for the win. Fuck computers for live mixing. Its garbage.
