Difference between breaks and breakbeat

So... Can anyone explain?

Posted by starglider on Apr-02-2006 17:07:

Nothing. Breaks is a short form.

Posted by Sykonee on Apr-02-2006 17:10:

Breaks are in the bones. Breakbeats are in the back.

Wow, you guys are so funny.
I asked that because I saw those two genre names on Discogs, some releases were labeled with breaks, some with breakbeat... Thanks to that I came to conclusion that some difference probably exists. Guess not.

Breakbeat can be breakdanced to. Breaks cannot.

Posted by AndySmith on Apr-03-2006 20:44:

I listened to a breaks compliation and it sounds heavier and dirtier, obviously with a broken beat. and a breakbeat album seemed a bit more minimal in sound and cleaner. This could just be the different styles chosen by the DJ?? but i prefered the breaks CD! Breakbeat one was horsefeed!!!!

I'm gonna have to call bullshit. Why don't you actually try to say things that have a real grounding in reality in the future?

Obviously there's a difference!

Breakbeat is more 80s sounding and more prone to being used for turntablism ( that's where it came from ).
And I guess you could say breaks is a hybrid between drum and bass and breakbeat.
It's not the most accurate comparision in the world but saying breaks and breakbeat are both the same is as ignorant as calling "electro" what some of the top house djs are playing these days.

More bullshit.

You're talking about electro here.

And progressive breaks here.

They're all breakbeat. They're all breaks. Study up on abbreviations.
