Alesis M1 Active 520 & 620
i just noticed a huge reduction in price of the 520 maaybe down to the fact that the old m1s are still being sold. but anyway has anyone used any of these speakers? if so what were they like?
thanx
I'll back that. What are these like?!
A/B'ed some when I got my tapcos. They sound nice, a decent ammount of clarity in the mids, they do have a lot of bass though. Bottom end seemed fairly boomy.
Listen before you buy! And A/B them against better more expensive speakers if you can.
at last! took a while for someone to respond. thanx very much!
im quite interested in these due them being incredibly cheap at the min and also the fact they have lots of tailoring switches on the back.
if they are still cheap wen i get paid, i may have to purchase them.
I'm sure they will be ok. They were on my short list when I got my monitors though in the end I went for Tapco S5's. I think the M1's would have been my second choice though. Personally I liked their sound.
It's all subjective though, a mastering engineer will tell you they are shit while a noob will tell you they are the best monitors ev0r. From most accounts they have a fairly clear sound but over-emphasise the bass... which may leave your mixes a bit bass-light? Probably fine as long as your not doing d'n'b/breaks or psytrance.
Like any of the cheap monitors, you'll need a lot of hours to tune your ears to them. Once you know how they translate to other systems, you'll be pulling good mixes out of them.
You might want to check the SoS review of them...
article
any 5 inch monitors tends to lean towards bass, the krks and tapcos do too. the beauty of have tailoring switches on the back on the monitors mean u can cut the bass to to try and get it flatter.
that SoS article isnt the same monitOrs im talking about! you do realise that dont u? im on about the new 520 not the old M1 mk11!!!!
lol... fuck sorry
I'm an idiot... thought you were talking about the MkII's. Disregard everything... never heard them
I LOL-ed.
So anyone road tested the 520's?
PS why does psy trance need tonnes of bass? It never seems bass heavy to me...
deary! doesn't matter! so any one heard a pair of these? im very tempted to buy the 520 as they're only 180.
