Spiderman 3 Plot Summary

Plot Summary for
Spider-Man 3 (2007)

Third film in the highly successful "Spider-Man" series sees several new villains and a new woman enter Peter Parker's life. With his secret now revealed to both Mary Jane and Harry, Peter must face the consequences of his actions and his new life together with Mary Jane as they finally form a relationship. Yet their newfound open display of love has yielded some unfortunate results, not the least of which is Peter's upset boss determined to make his life hell for causing his son emotional distress. Not helping is a young investigative reporter named Eddie Brock who Jameson has hired to find out why Mary Jane dumped his son for Peter - what's Parker's secrets? At the same time an escaped prisoner hiding out on a remote beach is caught in a dreadful accident and finds himself turned into a shape-shifting sand creature. Peter's investigations into the past of this 'Sandman' brings him in contact with two very different things that will inevitably alter his life. The first a young woman named Gwen Stacy, daughter of the city's new police chief who is developing a soft spot for Peter. The other, a black substance from an accident scene which 'merges' with Peter's costume and gives him new found abilities. Things come to a head however when Harry Osborn, determined to take revenge against Peter for his father's death and now equipped with what he needs to pull it off, teams with The Sandman in a new variation of his father's Green Goblin guise and causes mayhem. In the ensuing chaos lives are lost, including people very close to Peter, whilst the black substance covering his suit separates from him and merges with a distraught Brock to form something else entirely - a creature unlike anything he's ever faced. A 'Venom' that he may not be able to stop.

wow, seems like they're grasping at straws and trying to cram alot into this one. the gwen stacy plotline happened in the first 50 issues of Amazing Spiderman way before Peter got married to Maryjane (around issue 300)...

Yeah Hollywood tends to make compromises with comic based movies like these. They aren't always following the comics' plot step by step all the way, probably to make the movie more interesting and entertaining or something like that or just to save cost when the original idea would have been too expensive and time consuming to create.

Raimi has mixed up 2 different worlds in his movies tho.. most parts come from the original comic series but some bits and pieces come from an alternate view of Parker's life, comic series called Ultimate Spiderman. There characters and their development relating to Parker's life differ quite a bit from the original series. For example in the alternate version Eddie Brock (aka later known as Venom) was Parker's best friend during Parker's childhood and in Spiderman 3 the way Venom comes on Earth originates from the alternate series as well instead of the original series where it came with Spiderman from the Secret Wars.

i actually own Amazing Spiderman 252 and Secret Wars 8 (i think it's issue 8... the one with the black spidey on the cover)

awesome-age

my take is that, if they were going to introduce the gwen stacy love triangle, her character should have been introduced in Spidey 1+2, just like Harry Osborn, and the Lizard man (professor oconner) was....

Yes it would have been better to see Gwen already in the first 2 movies as she was in the comics, waayyyy before Peter and Mary Jane got into a serious relationship but.. but.. but.. Raimi and his writers made things follow a different path.

if this turns out to be true im more excited than ever

i thought it was going to be sandman + electro with no chance of venom making an appearance. Whilst im really excited with what they hope to achieve with the film, i feel it is a little too much to cram into one film. thats three main villains all with big parts in the film. i suspect it'll have to be 3 hours long.

P.S bring back norman!

i never knew they were planning on using electro........as for venom...its gonna be funny seeing topher grace as venom

I think it still isn't 100% sure who the villains besides the confirmed Sandman will be.. just various "rumours" here and there. Raimi himself isn't a big fan of Venom nor Carnage but likes Electro.. and it was talked at some point that Venom (and possibly Carnage) would be put into Spiderman 4 and Sandman & Electro would feature in Spiderman 3 but we'll see who ends up to be where and what role will Topher Grace play in the end.

u know some of these villains were boring in the comics. sandman, electro.. snore

but put them together with cgi and today's gfx fx houses...and any villain could be made larger than life!

i completely agree

i thought spiderman 2 was great, even in the cheesey "raindrops keep falling on my head" scene. Dr. octopus was cool in the comics and he was completely badass in the film, the actor and the trenchcoat.
i would've liked Carnage, but Venom will do (for now)
