-- What makes this illegal?

Posted by BigLee on Feb-26-2001 21:31:

I was trying to get Tiesto's autograph, but I didn't have any paper. So I gave him a $1 bill to sign on, but he told us it was illegal to sign on money. How come?

Posted by RuffRyda on Feb-26-2001 21:45:

i'm pretty sure it's illegal to deface money, but for sure, i know it's illegal to burn it...like anyone would though. hope that helps.

Question Why?

Just curious, why would you want Tiesto to sign a dollar?...kinda degrading if you ask me. And yes, it is illegal to deface money, so all of you kids putting pennies on train tracks beware!

Peace,
Steve

haha lol oops, has anyone put a penny on a track before does it mess up the train?

Posted by nrjizer on Apr-07-2002 08:05:

Ive put pennies on tracks before, it never messed the train up. Its actually become a felony in the US to put coins on the tracks, but thats bullshit imo. A tiny coin isnt going to crash a fucking 10+ ton rail car.

uh,of course not, i think it's more the fact that you're destroying government issued property for no logical reason.

Posted by Special_K on Apr-07-2002 08:53:

ys it is illegal to deface money. Jeez if a cop sees a kid put sme coins on the track they arnt going to arrest them....its just a bullshit law. Ya and coins aint going to do shit to a train i live right on the beach by train tracks and ive seen these things plow through HUGE fallen trees.....crazy shit.

Posted by Chris_h on Apr-07-2002 09:00:

Usually trains have a sweeper of some sort in front of the cart wheels that removes small stuff from the tracks in front of the train... at least the subway here in sweden does =)

I've just been to San Francisco, and there were all these souvenir machines, where you would pop in a penny and two quarters and the penny would have a new face stamped onto it. How come that's legal?

On a side note: why do you call them pennies, when they're cents?

lmao
i dont think so, cuz ur not defacing it, ur exploting it

Smoking ..umm..something

What D__G said is correct, loads of fivers here have little numbers on. Shopkeepers often write on them with their biro when they are counting money or whatever.

I don't think it's illegal. Technically you could say it's defacing it, but it must either be legal here, or be one of those laws that noone ever gets arrested for, like dropping litter.

I think Tiesto was probably just being cautious. If I was him I wouldn't have risked it either.

Why didn't you just get him to sign your t-shirt or something?

I love the machines they have in the states (Universal Studios in California and down by Fisherman's Warf, SF) where you put a coin in, usually a penny, and it rolls it through a little "press" to squish it flat and put a logo on it.
