dj headphones

anybody know what make of headphones the top djs go for?

they must be good with all the wear and tear they are subject to on world tours

Posted by jdat on Apr-04-2006 17:45:

Most of them use Sony's. But there is also Sennheiser, Pioneer among other brands.

It really all comes down to personal preference. Sure, most of the "top" dj's may use Sony's but maybe Pioneers would sound better for you. Just go into a local music store and test a bunch out and see which ones suit you the best.

All that is bollock, ive had them all Sony, Pioneer and compared to Sennheiser their shit. The best thing to do is to test yourself. But trust me go Sennheiser

my sony headphones are superb. have lasted me nearly two years.

Posted by L.E.N. on Apr-05-2006 02:55:

Ive had a pair of Koss that have lasted over 6 years. Ive had a few pairs that costed more but Id break them within a year. They arent the best but they dont suck.

They have all the features that appeal to me. Coiled cord, so Im not tripping over it. Adjustable volume in each ear so I can adjust to my comfort no matter the location of where Im spinning and speaker layout.

The sturdiest part is the metal to metal connection of the speakers and the headband. Thats where my others broke all the time. I can go to sleep with them on and not wake up with my headphones in pieces.

love the pioneers, seems like the bass is a lot nicer than on the sonys

Posted by Hasneez on Apr-05-2006 04:21:

i've got my Pioneers as well, i really love it but after using them for bit they start to get uncomfortable!

There are two Sony's most people use for DJing. The absolute crap 700's, and the really fucking good 7506/V6.

Sasha: Sony MDR-7506
John Digweed: Sony MDR-V700
Steve Lawler: Sony MDR-7506
Danny Howells: Sony MDR-7506
Nick Warren: Technics RPDH-1200
Hernan Cattaneo: Technics RPDH-1200A
Ferry Corsten: Sony MDR-V700
James Zabiela: Pioneer HDJ-1000
Sandra Colins: Sony MDR-7506
Paul Van Dyk: Sony MDR-7506
Tiesto: Stanton DJ Pro 2000 S
Christopher Lawrence: Sony MDR-7506

If you want a headphone that'll guarantee blocking off all outside sound, get these ones. The earpieces on this thing is HUGE.

I like my Technic RP1200. Excellent ear support and quality sound. Pretty sturdy design.

I have the Sony 7506...and while they dont block out all sound as well as some cans, I love them to death for their great sound quality, and most of all, they are super light and super comfortable...long sets are no problem

stantons

awesome

sonys fell apart quickly, shit!

stantons sound better, feel better (huge ear hole), last longer, and are way cheaper.

stantons!

at the moment i use pioneer hdj 1000s, but i wouldnt reccommend them. the sound is pretty good, but ive had headphones which are alot more crisp sounding in the past. The problem ive had with these pioneers is that they are actually quite tacky and plasticy.. my left earphone was twisted slightly too far in one direction, which meant that the little plastic stud which was supposed to PREVENT them from breaking, actually prized the joint apart and snapped it. its not a huge problem, ive just stuck it back together.. but these are 140 dj headphones, u would expect that they would last a bit longer than a few months, its not like i was viscious with them. i say the simpler the better, itll be senheiser or sony for me next time.

I like the Pioneers cause of how well they fit your head, and really cling to the ear...but other than that...the sound quality is meh, and as has been said, they get uncomfortable really fast.

im generally alone on this one, but i swear by my Sony mdr-v600s.

lol yeah, but like you said, up close they're plastic as shit

I'd be cool if I was like zabs and I could get new ones after each gig, but for now I'm poor and I need something that lasts.

Oh fuck it... love my Sony's anyway...best cans ever.

Sony MDR-V6

Sound great, very comfortable, sturdy little mofos (simpler = less stuff to break), cheap

Cons - No swivel (I don't use swivels anyway so no biggie for me)

Used by Sasha, PvD, Digweed (I think)

Yeah V6/7506 are dope. They're exactly the same AFAIK except the 7506 have a gold plated jack.

Posted by pvdclubber on Apr-05-2006 13:09:

i believe its also not possible to repair the v6,

i ordered the 7506 today, god it's hard to get a decent priced pair in the uk,

just ordered em from germany

Sennheiser were the king of headphones untill Sony took over the company, now they are kak, although i still say Seinheiser are the best.

I actually have owned the Sony MDR-7509 it's even better than the Sony MDR-7506 and the Pioneer HDJ-1000 too but they can't compare in sound quality the Sennheiser HD-25 has even though the Sony MDR-7509 comes very close but it's clumpsy the HD-25 isn't.
