UH OH I dont know how to use dennon's

So i learned how to play on cdj 200s,

Are the denon's at ALL similar? Could i learn in 10 mins the differences between the two?
Can i beatloop with the dennons?

Posted by alligator on Apr-04-2006 21:04:

yes you can loop...

you can pretty much do everything that you can do on the cdj 200 on a denon plus more. but that being said the functions work differently and it will take you a while to get used to it.

set aside more than 10 min...give yourself anywhere between 30 min to 2 hours...depending on you experience level and ability

Use the pitch bend buttons instead of the jog wheel.

Denons are so easy to use- especially with pitch bend buttons

i love the pitch blend buttons...can almost determine how much i have to adjust the pitch just by how long i need to take the pitch blend button

so there is no jog wheel?

Denon Single Units? All have "jog" wheels. Non-static platters.

The 3500's will better emulate real vinyl since it's direct drive, and the 5000's will feel a bit weird. You can use the pitch bend, or touch the moving platter slightly.

denon's are really easy to use. i like the ease of use for both pioneers and denons... but cdj1000s feel sexy

Posted by mylespower on Apr-05-2006 08:54:

lol... +1 at 1000's FTW

i have them... love them..... but yeah... those pitch bend buttons on the dennons are cool...... just not as cool as the 1000/800 wheel

the only difference i would be worried about is when correcting... using a static platter is diff than pressing buttons or touching a moving platter

The 3500's platter can either be a moving platter, or you can set it to "Pioneer" mode and it'll work much like the 1000.

i like them both. i'm kinda torn between the two.. i love the simplicity, the feel, and the sexiness of the cdj1000, but i still like the DD platter of the 3500.. and i'm used to denon cd decks being that i own a pair myself.

decisions decisions

You can do this with all the denon desktop models. I've used the DNS5000 extensively and it works exactly like a Pioneer if you switch the platter mode dial to "search" mode.

In search mode, when the track is playing, the platter will speed up or slow down the track and when the track is paused, it will stutter search. You then hit the cue in this mode to set your cue point... EXACTLY like pioneers. Just remember to switch it to "search" mode.

Well with the Pioneers in Vinyl mode, you just touch the platter, ride over the beat where you want to cue, and hit "cue". I much prefer that to using "CDJ" mode where you have to listen to the stutter.

I believe the new 3500 has that method of cueing as well, but the 3000/5000's do not, right?

Your right, no they dont. If you were to use that method of cueing up on s5000's, you would just switch the platter to active mode in which case it would spin like a TT. Same deal, you ride over the cue point and press one of the hotstart (alternative cue points) buttons to set a cue point. Basically the same as the CDJ 800/1000 except the platter is actually spinning. Not that different really. Havnt had a play on the 3500's so dont know if they have a CDJ "vinyl" mode or just an active platter mode as in the DNS 3000/5000
