mnml

Hearing it more and more.
Looks like electro house's days are finally coming to a close.
An minimal is going to be the new electro (which was the new prog for a while - and before that prog was the new trance aaaaaaand so on)

So what are your thoughts on this? Personally i quuite like minimal - but if its gunna take over the bigger scenes, its gunna get sold out to a degree just like electro has been.
There'll be the good, the bad and the ugly - just like there always is.

For trance what does this mean? Well if u look at it - trance has gone down a slightly electro path in the last few years - it does follow the trends (as does all dance music i guess)...and i think more a minimal feel to trance would probably do it a world of good.

discuss

Haven't heard much 'mnml' that wasn't also 'boring'. Maybe it's just not my thing

But maybe you could hybrid it with trance or something else to make it more interesting

Especially not when you have such a bad word to work with

But glad it's been abbreviated... I'm so concerned about the big issues in life

JPL is like the architect in the matrix, no one but he understands what he's talking about

ERGO, VISA VI, CONCORDENTLY.. you know what? I have no idea what the hell im saying.

Posted by tathi on Apr-06-2006 03:14:

virginias got me hooked on the genre. bitch!

some of its way too minimal for me, but i'm loving it more and more lately. that Kiss100 Oliver Lieb set posted in the download thread was incredible, and i'm loving producers like Nathan Fake, Ultrawerk, Mathew Johnson, et al, atm

Posted by Dean Millson on Apr-06-2006 04:09:

Matthew Jonson at Earthcore 05 was the best live set i have ever heard and it'd be in my top 5 all time probably as well.

Troy Pierce's recent podcast mix for Resident Advisor is one of the best sets i have ever downloaded also.

Needless to say that i like it. I'm getting more and more in to th "real" minimal stuff but probably wouldn't feel comfortable playing a lot of it out as it's not what you would call dancefloor friendly _but it's great for Sunday afternoons enjoying a cuppa from the" K"ettle.

whens prog coming back

mnml with the 'right' sounds and structures is great, its otherwise terribly boring imo. I personally am playing alot of it on my radio show but havent experimented too much in the clubs.

i hope the trance and prog (some already are) producers are effected by this as with jpl i think it will be good for the sound.

Posted by Dean Millson on Apr-06-2006 05:04:

It's out already

Had a good listen to CD one at the end of last weekend and enjoyed it but nothing really smashed me over the head - i think CD 2 has a more upbeat feel (including Lump! Yay!) so i'm looking forward to giving it a listen.
