getting that "armin sound"

There was a thread on here a while back now with the same title I believe. It had a download available for some kind of compression plugin for winamp which could make your mixes have that warmth to it. I searched for the thread and couldn't find it, does anybody remember this thread and the program?

That's an amazing difference in sound quality. Thanks for the plug-in!

what does this software do?

I don't really understand why you would want to do this. Since the tunes are already professionally mastered they're about as good quality as they can be. Compressing them again will only cause loss of dynamics.

YUP, exactly, I think some people like the sound as it does seem to brighten some of the sounds and adds somewhat of an atmosphere to it aswell, but you can really hear a loss in alot of other sounds.

I posted this a long time ago. I love that sound, and I don't care if it takes away some quality. It sounds so nice. I wont listen to anything without it because it sounds so dull.

Its been a while since I used Winamp and I haven't used that FM plugin in ages, but I believe that if you goto "Config" for that plugin, it should pop-up.

I'm recording mixes onto my computer but because my mixer is a bit dull I thought running them through the compressor might brighten the quality up a little. It doesn't seem to work as well with house/minimal as I'd hoped though.

So... What settings/preset in the sound solution plugin to duplicate asot sound? I experimented a lot myself, but my knowledge on compression is too little.

Posted by antronx on Apr-10-2006 18:33:

Sound Solution is not a good plugin for multiband compression. I have made numerous presets with sound solution to duplicate the famous sound of Orban processors that commercial radio stations use to process their on-air sound. Sound Solution has a problem in the upper region of the sound spectrum. It removes the clarity and definition of the high frequencies and produces a lot of ear fatigue.

Multiband Compression does make the original source material sound better, but only if done properly and can be done once. Most of the modern trance is compressed before it is released. If it is compressed again, it will destroy the dynamic range and clarity of the track, if any left after mastering.

For those who like the original preset sound of Sound Solution, you need to clean up your sound chain and get better needles/mixer/sound card/speakers. Getting the wax out of your ears will help too. Armin Van Buuren should also consider the above.
