Worst Period of Trance
I've recently decided to go through all my tracks and create best of spring/summer/fall/winter compilations beginning with summer of 1999. All my seasonal compilations were coming out fine with massive tracks finding spots in all the seasons; I had to make painful decisions concering which songs to include and which to exclude as there just isn't enough room to include more than 8-10 songs per CD.
Then I ran into summer and fall of 2002. I was struggling, struggling to find anything worth burning a CD for. Crap like DJ Dean - Play It Hard, Matt Darey feat. Marcella Woods - U Shine On, and DJ Sammy & Yanou - Heaven typified the garbage on my HDD for this period. After some painstaking work I was able to fill up this black whole in my collection (I was forced to borrow tunes that caught my attention later in 2003, but that were released in the 2nd half of 2002).
GOD, what an awful period for Trance, don't you agree?
for regular trance yea, but 2002 was AMAZING for great hard trance.
lots of great german acts with cool sounds
What did you have on those CDs? I'd be interested to know.

Was a far better period than now IMO. Hemstock & Jennings - Crimson Soil for example, is a track I really liked.
Late 2003/Early 2004 for me was the worst period.
Super-saw trance from everybody.
In 2002 I was blown away - seemed not so much pure-trance, but certainly a lot of good stuff out there. The peak of Tiesto's career at least.
Hope you've got Solarcoaster in a comp somewhere.
The only thing bad about this period of trance is having to read posts like this. Dude, we already know some people aren't happhy. But there's no need to keep creating threats about it.

What a horrible year
This year has been awful. To exaggerate it's almost the middle of the year and I haven't heard anything worth listening to with the exception of Allure's release of 'The Love We Lost' which is starting to grow on me and 'Escape' by Airbase.
in my mind 2002 was the best year since 1999...so many releases in exactly my style of trance...its true that 'Airbase - Escape' would've been the only song of this year to get into my 2002 top list...
2006 so far has been really good for progtrance. Tegma, Vibrasphere, The Digital Blonde and the heaps of good stuff coming soon fron Iboga, Tribal Vision, Spiral Trax just to name a few.
In my opinion, 2005 had to be the worst year.
Nothing interested me much and for most of that year, i was stuck in the years 99-04.
2004-date.
2003 wasn't amazing but had good stuff, 2002 was great, 1990s through to 2001 were awesome. 2004 onwards only have odd songs worth it.
Yeah 2006 sucks, I haven't seen one really amazing release yet, well until probably Novocain by Kalafut & Fygle is released, and Colour My Eyes by Mark Norman, or other tracks from ISOS 5, which I think sound pretty nice IMO. It might not be really hard stuff but thats not what i'm into. I'm into now more prog house/trance and prog breaks or "trancey breaks". I just find some better made tracks with more passion, and still have great melodies but are less theatrical, they are just pretty spacey and a bit more subtle. Sentient Audio Collective and Proton Music are two labels that I think have been and are making some great music this past year and this year as well. So these are two labels to really check out.
