Old school chord sound - sample included
This is a sample from prob the biggest old school tune ever - Let me be your fantasy (Dancing Divas remix). I just love this sound, it just makes you want to dance. I really would love to recreate this sound, I'm guessing FM7 would be the right tool. Would any of you synthesists out there be able to tell me what the waveform consists of, or even recreate it.
Thx in advance for your help.

Old school chord
MANBAG knows the answer
Its a piano- loads of classic synths have presets like that one.
presests were used a hell of a lot back in the day
Any idea on a VST that might have a preset that I can tweak to get it right?

Korg legacy digital. It has the M1 in there which has one of the classic house pianos in there
I have that! But the preset doesn't sound as "dirty" it just sounds like a piano. A pointer in the right direction would be great as to where to start tweaking.

1 . Slightly detune the oscs.
2. turn off the onboard FX
3. Play a chord, record it back in and trigger that as a sample
4. For authenicity drop the bit depth of your sample to 12 bit, and no more than 30Khz sample rate. Don't dither.. Now you are starting to approximate the Akai S900/S950 used in a lot of those early tracks

So good you said it three times
the korg M1 was one of THE old skool synths for rave stabs etc....
what waveform or preset should I use, just the base piano one?

you can make this with z3ta they actually have a preset that sounds like this ..chicago sometihng preset
I'm dragging through the lower parts of my memory here. I think it was program B01 as a start (That's on the real thing).
Think it's called "8' Piano" or some such.. Start with that one and tweak the fuck out of it..

From memory (I had the actual keyboard).
M1 sounds come in 3 flavors. Combis (Which are multi-timbral/ Splits or layers) and Single and dual programs
Single programs have a single oscillaor, and can be tuned up or down. Duals consist of effectively two single osccilator sounds mixed together. Get your piano sound, check if it's a dual. I can't remember if the one I poined you at is or isn't. I haven't had an M1 or about 10 years!
If it isn't make it a dual and copy the parameters accross.
There is no detune control as such, but there is "Fine Tune" nudge one up a cent or two and the other down. Mix and match evelopes and you'll sart to get there.
Again all his is based of the real M1. The legacy plugin should do all this as it's an "Accurate" emulation.
Good luck.. :-)
