pci express soundcards... wtf am i to do
just ordered my powermac and its on its way and i now have come to the understanding that it has pci-express slots (not pci)
it seems that there are no pci-express sound cards avail at a decent price or even at all
i had my heart set on a nice simply m-audio 2496...
so anyone know of what is available or what will be available in the near future
really? no pci slots? i didnt know that...
maybe a firewire soundcard?
i really don't want an external sound card... not that they're bad or anything... i just want my internal card
this is shitty.. i am going to have this babe of a computer and not be able to hook it up the way i want to
until the right card is released which i have no idea when that will be
if anyone knows of anything that is out or will be out.. please share your knowledge
usually there's like 2 old-type PCI slots and 3-4 PCI-Express slots, but I dunno about macs... those things are weird anyways... I mean, come on... there's only one button on the mouse
But seriously, there should be at least 1 or 2 PCI slots on there.. if not, you made the mistake of not researching before you bought... Never spend money unless you know excactly what you're getting for it!
And if you end up having to buy an external interface, Firewire is the way to go!

Hi!
There is this one but i guess i doesnt come cheap

MOTU make a PCI Express version of their 434 card. The card won't do anything on its own, as it needs an external AD/DA to be added. That said in terms of bang for the buck the MOTU system rocks.
Internal sound cards with AD/DA are evil and should be cast out.
yeah well ive called around to places here and yeah... i guess im goign to cave
since we're on the topic anyway... can any of you recommend a firewire interface just to hook up 2 monitors (thats all i need it for right now)
incase of compatibility issues here is my main setup
apple power mac g5 2.3
logic pro 7

Also works with PT M-Powered if you want to head that way, but even if not it represents great value for money at that price point.

The firewire audiophile is very similar to the card in terms of performance and quality.
That apogee card is useless without the multi thousand dollar interfaces that go on it..
