is this illegal? *regarding unemployment*

if i went on unemployment, and i worked for a temp agency at the same time, and not tell the unemployment office...would i get in trouble ?

it would show. your ssn number would be registered with the temp agency. as someone who has hired temp workers I had to log them as employees.

working under the table is a different issue.

edit: i have no idea if you would get in trouble though.

Make no doubt, it will catch up to you...

you should not get in trouble per say, but any income you earn while on unemployment will affect the amount you get from unemployment. well thats at least how i understand it.

My cousin works with the EI department in Toronto. He helped me get EI here, so he knows the ins and outs.

If you give you S.I.N. number to this temp agency, and they claim you as a paid employee, IT WILL GET BACK to the EI department. If they find you are working and haven't told them, they will make you pay them their money back, and you can be blacklisted from using government funding to your aid ever again.

I personally don't think it's worth taking the risk.

but are you not allowed to work while also on unemployment as additional income, with a reduction of your ei benefits?

Yes you are, you just have to tell EI about it when you fill out your bi-weekly reports, whatever money you make during the 2 weeks will be deducted off the amount you receive, but depending on how much you are getting you are allowed to make some money on top of your EI that wo't get deducted.
