lol "dream computer" eh? that is definetely a computer geek thing to do. but don't worry i'm a geek too...and proud of it!

back in '95 my dream comp was a Pentium 133 MHz with 32MB of RAM, 2 GB hard drive, and a 28.8 modem. boy, how things have changed! nowadays i haven't really been keeping track but i'd have to say my dream comp would be similiar to ravdude's.

Posted by Coup on Feb-01-2002 10:28:

ill hide my PII350 64RAM 6GIG HD

Posted by dj_mdma on Feb-01-2002 10:45:

The best commercial graphics card, ICANT REMEMBER THE NAME (ARGHH), was like well good. It had 1gig of video ram and 32 Voodoo 3 chips or something like that and it also had the function where you could linnk 2 of them together for twice the power!! It also happened to cost about $100,000! or somethng like that

Posted by Rostros on Feb-01-2002 12:28:

Yep

ill stick with my spectrum

Posted by SYNthSRI on Feb-01-2002 13:32:

181.6GB ULTRA 160 WIDE SCSI, 160MB/SEC 7200rpm Seagate Baracuda
and as said before
Klipsch ProMedia
for the P3 ...hmm would do the newer one instead -- the 2.2Ghz Sock 478 CPU (dual ofcourse)
Pioneer DVR-A03 DVD Recorder
100/1000 Intel NIC
for Video
GeForce 4 -- screw ATI
Overclock the CPU to about 2.6 Ghz each
for cooling Water Cooling would do the trick

Price tag for the parts mentioned above (roughly)
HD : $1400
Speaker : $400
DVD-Rec : $400
NIC : $150
Video Card : $550
Cooling : $250

Throw in Windows XP Professional Corporate Edition Final, too! My m8's uncle has 3 100 GB HDDs, 72x CD-ROM. How about 7.1 speaker setup??? Ask [email protected] for more info. I forgot the rest of his info...

You should be using 2 HD widescreen monitors that are above 1980 X 1440 resolution. You're forgetting about the backup plan! Get the BEST tape drive around! Make sure ALL audio equipment is THX certified for the highest quality. Also, what about the MINIDV Camera hooked up to the PC with an MPEG-2 card along with (http://www.sonic.com/daikin) SONIC Scenerist (sp?) for DVD production like you've never dreamed of b4!!!

Posted by jon on Feb-01-2002 19:32:

How about some TAG-McLaren Amp's for it, aperently they are quite good, hence the 50,000 price tag!!

Jon

Posted by ABTsportsline on Feb-01-2002 19:57:

yes definitely go with AMD and screw Pentiums...
...also dump the Plextor, i've had 2 and they are pieces of shit. Get a TDK or something instead... but better yet, the DVD burner...

Klipsch setup sounds great... so does dual flat-screens.

**but i would KEEP the 56K modem... have it in addition to your built-in DSL modem.... sometimes DSL service goes down (like mine right now), and you'd be glad you still have a 56K for those emergencies...

Satellite dish? You mean Europe Online's service? Too bad we in USA can't get it. Shouldn't you get T3 for both? T3's connection speed is up to 44 MBPS!!! What's Satellite's speed?

Posted by jon on Feb-02-2002 00:04:

And how about a webcam so we can brodcast the dream partys from the dream pc!!

I don't know wether it's faster, but sounds cool!

Bah... I'm a geek, an audio enthusiast, a gamer, a trancer, and a dreamer... so this would be MY dream system:

Processor: Dual AMD Athlon XP 2 GHz
Ram: 3.5 GB DDR 266mhz RAM
Hard Drives: x4 300 GB SCSI 10,000 RPM Externals
DVD-RW: Pioneer DVD Burner 4X
DVD-ROM: Pioneer 16x slot (which I already own )
MonitorS: dual NEC Plasma Screens (very expensive) (because one is just not enough with an unlimited budget)... + an NEC Multisync 24" for backup
3COM 1000mbit NIC
Internet Connection: x2 T3
Sound Card 1 (for music / studio use): M-Audio Delta 1010
Sound Card 2 (for games): Soundblaster Audigy
Speaker set 1: Videologic Sirocco Pro's (2.1 system for monitoring)
Speaker set 2: Videologic Digitheatre DTS (5.1 for DVD & Games
Headphones 1 (for DJing): Sennheiser HD25s
Headphones 2 (for studio): Beyerdynamic DT831
Keyboard & Mouse: Logitech's wireless & optical combo

Also... since these 'can' and 'would' be hooked up if I had infinite $$$ for the dream machine... I will add in these:
x2 Technics 1210MKII Turntables
x2 Pioneer CDJ-1000s
x2 Roland DJ-2000 Mixer (so I could have a guest DJing at the same time )
