Looking For Recordings of "Anti File Sharing Blurbs"
I am trying to make a piece of music about file sharing online. It is meant to be a silly gimmicky piece. I want to take samples from those "ringer" files that tend to show up on file sharing networks, primarily the old ones that spreaded around napster.
If you dont remember these, "ringer files" were labeled as tunes by specific bands, but once you downloaded them and played them they were statements from the band members saying stuff about how file sharing was wrong, or how downloading was stealing, some of these ringer files also had really unpleasant noises, curses, threats like "we know you downloaded this file are are coming after you!", and all sorts of fun things.
I never heard any ringer files but have read many things about them, I am wondering if I can even find copies of them anymore. I think it is important to save these ringer files, they document an important part of the internet's history. I realize that in order to release such a piece of music I would need the original author's of those ringer files permission. This music will not be released or played out anywhere, I'm making it more as a joke than anything else.
Does anybody know where I might find old ringer files and anti file sharing blurbs? I would just love to have as many of these anti sharing recordings that were labeled as music as I can possibly find.
cool idea, cant help u but cool idea
i always thought those files were myths....haha
I'll look later,.. i have one that goes "This is madonna, what the fuck do you think you're doing?"
There was a whole group of people who did a bunch of remixes of it..

thanks diginerd, those are the types of files I'm looking for!
I need many many more, Ive tried searching for stuff by the really aggresive anti file sharing people but everything I am getting is actual music and not ringer files, I guess nobody actually goes looking for these things on file sharing networks.
These turn out to be really hard to find actually, google barely mentions themn anymore but I remember a time when they were all over the place.
Maybe I should find some crazy bloggers, crazy bloggers can dig through the internet and find anything, anybody know some of those kind of people?
Is there another name for these kind of statements, google is usually so good at finding this stuff, if only I could think of the proper term to search for.
I have an audience that would recognize these spoof files if only I could find them. I have recovered a few that are parts of songs followed by harsh noises, these seem to be generated by a program,, but Im actually looking for the ones where bands try to make you feel guilty for downloading.
It is going to be really silly and sarcastic and I'm gonna share it with some kids here at school who are huge downloaders, its gonna be fun.
http://riaamix.com/ has a few of them, and I also found that site with the remixes of madonna's decoy file, I am trying to do something similar to that but with more of these.
I vaguely remember these from metallica, eminem, radiohead, moby, and a few others, but I'm not finding copies of them anywhere, it doesnt seem as if anybody preserved them.

Download one of those anti-piracy commercials from one of the many video sharing websites all around the net, record it, and rip it apart and make some sick and twisted music with it.
meh, that would be too easy
