No Oakey 4/14?

WTF happened to Oakenfold at Crobar on 4/14? Now that tenaglia's playing there that night...

Posted by Gjorgji on Apr-10-2006 04:41:

That sux... However, Mauro Picotto in the house!

Posted by EnigmaT on Apr-10-2006 06:32:

I didn't realize it got changed to Crobar. Did Spirit re-open after getting shut down a few weeks ago?

Posted by DJ A.K on Apr-10-2006 07:25:

This is most puzzling... Now, I won't be in the city this upcoming week, so it's no concern of mine, but I don't see how or why they would move Tenaglia and Picotto to Crobar, a move that, as the title of this post implies, cancel the appearance of Oakenfold @ Crobar. Whereas I'm sure that Tenaglia/Picotto can draw a much bigger crowd than Oakenfold (In New York, at least), wouldn't it make sense to either push Oakenfold back to a different date or to move him to Spirit? I'm sure Spirit, Crobar, and Made Event can come up with a deal that ends up making everybody happy (of course, there's always the question of Oakenfold, who might refuse to play at Spirit). Regardless, the bottom line is that I simply don't understand this course of action.

Well, I'm not sure, though Spirit's website is still showing only the announcement that they'll be open on the 8th and 9th. But somehow I doubt that this shutdown interfered with the Made Event party, as I know for a fact that Avalon was open on Friday night... so I'm guessing that everything is ok with Spirit.

Are you certain about this? I don't know if Oakenfold would agree to play in the Reed room in the first place. Moreover, think about the kind of crowd this is going to generate! Paul van Dyk's crowd at Roxy would pale in comparison to DT & Mauro in the main room with Oakey backing them up in the Reed room (too bad the PvD Roxy crowd was OK, but the April 14th one is going to suck).

lol, Oakey in the Reed Room!

i think he was kidding...

Yeah, it seems that they've simply moved Oakey to Sat. night. You'd think that Oakey would have had something already scheduled for Sat. night, but everything has probably already been worked out.

Your posts in this thread make it sound like Oakey's STILL viewed as an EDM god.

I guess David Waxman's Ultra Electro ablum release party got cancelled, huh?

I wonder how the crowd will be that night, as it's a Saturday and I'm not really a fan of the Saturday crowds, but JP is the same night @ Pacha. Either way, I won't be in attendance.

classic oakey argument... but his new album is ridiculous, not the oakey we r used to. his new album is mostly hard basslines and no fluff

I heard his new collaboration with Britney Murphy. It sounded like something fit for a strip club, not a dance club. I don't think it can be danced to without a garter belt and 4 inch clear plastic heels.

Exclamation

A warning to those going to Oakey -

I just got Crobar's weekly email of events and they still have the David Waxman party scheduled for 4/15, not Oakey. They're selling tix on wantickets and their website has the same info.
