My girlfriend had, but they let her go because it was her birthday.

i got summoned for it last summer but i was able to get out of it since i technically didn't live in Milwaukee county any more.

i've heard it's boring though... bring a book/magazine/GameBoy/hooker.

They snagged me twice in a row a few years ago. It's not really very exciting, and chances are you will be dismissed. The majority of cases plea bargain and thus settle out of court. You can also carefully answer the questions in such a way as to select yourself out. Don't be overly offensive or obvious, though, as this can backfire.

If you live on your own or pay a good chunk of the rent that you rely on your work for and your work doesn't pay full wages while you are on Jury Duty, just call for Hardship. That is, if you do jury duty you won't get enough pay from your work to maintain your living costs (rent, bills).

Or when they ask you a question about you, just answer in a way that gives them the indication that you are already biased towards one side. Easy out.

You wanna make sure you get challenged. Just say you're biased against all races.

I'm pretty sure it's an old Simpsons gag.

On the bright side you'll probably get to nail Tia Carrera

Perhaps I have no idea WTF is going on, but do they do this in Canada too, or is it just the U.S.?

i dont have to worry about getting paid because my company pays you for when you go to jury duty. i guess you get some certificate at the end of the day and thats what they need.

Can you offer a better solution?

Gas chambers? I keed. I'm RJT on this one. I bitch and moan every time I get selected, but when you consider the alternatives we're in good shape here in the states. At least we get due process and a trial by a jury of our peers. Much better than some random despot saying, "Okay, just behead him while I rape his wife and daughters."

What scares me more than having Joe Sixpack on the jury is the way lawyers often twist and distort things to confuse Joe Sixpack. Of course I don't have the panacea for that little problem, either. Just a random thought on a Wednesday morning.
