I can't help myself. I've got to see you again.

So I went to my parents house for Easter. I came back with some food, put it away then turn on the TV. I went to the bathroom, had a pee, and walked back into my living room. All of a sudden, I notice a long yellow shape on the floor. I stopped and so did my heart. Could it be?

I advanced slowly on the shape and it moved, confirming my thoughts. My gecko, gone for several months, had returned! I slowly coaxed him into my hand, did a quick cleaning of his cage and reset him up. He isn ow in his cage where he will only come out for cage cleanings. He actually looks in decent shape; thinner than he was but not particularly sickly at all! This is the perfect capper to what has really been the best weekend of my year.

Here are some pictures I snapped of him when I put him back in the cage:

Posted by tribu on Apr-17-2006 00:52:

I dont have any crickets which is what he usually eats, but he did eat grapes out of my hand, so he hasn't totally forgotten his master...

Im going to go restock on crickets and mealworms tomorrow

leopard geckos can go months without eating. you can tell how healthy they are by the thickness of their tale.

a friend had his on sand from an early age (bad idea when they are new borns, should be kepy on kitchen role as a substrate) and it became impacted with sand, and couldnt shit, therefore didnt eat. it went 5 months without food and was on the brink of death but my pal had been giving him drops of veg oil. the oil loosened him up in time and he did a big turd full of sand and started eating again.

thats cool as hell. I gave my sister my snake, but before that, I used to feed it like, once a month.

I gave it to her once the damn thing started biting me all the time.

yea geckos store fat in their tail and use that when they cant find food.

Posted by Yan on Apr-17-2006 03:01:

What an interesting health indicator.
