Rasta [THE Summertime House Mix] Allied Nations - Last Summer in Bombay - 04.16.06

Hey All!

I know it isn't quite summer where most of you live, but its fucking summer in Bombay already! It's like 35 degrees everyday- getting too hot handle! We've been doing so much chillin I decided to put together a real sunset/summertime/kickin it mix. This one has been in the working for quite a bit now and putting together the tracklist was tough to say the least! But I really feel good about it now. Big ups to montana for his invaluable assistance! ALso big ups to MERiDiAN5i2 for being the badass that he is and always hosting my stuff!

EDIT: Also, if anyone knows any promoters in Europe I'm going to be in Madrid from June 29th-Aug 16th so hook a brotha up!

1. Will Saul - Animal Magic
2. Tim Paris - Edges of Corrosion
3. Jose Gonzalez - Crosses (Jori Hulkkonen Remix)
4. Blue Six - Sweeter Love (ii Deep Dub)
5. Metro Area - Orange Alert
6. Guy Gerber - Turkish Delight
7. Tall Paul - Got it (Dale Anderson and Anil Chawla Remix)
8. Magnolia - It's all in Vain (Steve Angello Remix)
9. Rock & Ash - Searching for Nena
10. Hernan Cattaneo & John Tonks - Warsaw (Original Mix)
11. Sasha & Emerson - Scorchio

it's a good mix, solid progression thru & thru. the will saul track was cool but i didnt like the tim paris track, mostly because the of the total breakdown, altho it bridged nicely into one of my favs being hulkkonen's remix of crosses. what a tune, it still has that magic touch, and went nicely into the matty heilbronn ii deep dub of blue six which is quite funky and really takes the mix into a new level. i like the looped mixout of the blue six tune into the metro area tune which also is funkyness, and went smoothly into the guy gerber track was quite nice and then into the tall paul track, personally i like the jark prongo mix but the anderson & chewna mix was cool. very uptempo and keeps that way when it goes into the angello mix of it's all vain, which still does the track, and the rock & ash version of oldschool baby is cool, (altho i still prefer the original version), here we go into a resting spot that is cattaneo's & tonks' warsaw which despite being a small burma(sasha mix) ripoff is good, i like the mood change because when you are bringing in something almighty and extraordinary funky like scorchio, then it's good to have something calming before the storm. and scorchio is like it is called scorching, even today. good setender to a good summer mix.

but i can summarize this in short termes. download this bitches, now

Thanks again Montana! That's a great review! Too bad about the Tim Paris tune.. I just can't get over the bassline!

It's obvious you have a deep like for Mumbai!

There were alot more vocals in here than usual. That opening track is great, true summer vibes. I would have loved to hear Crosses after this. Maybe I just have a bias, Hulkkonen's remix is georgous, almost brings you to tears, and I don't feel you did it justice by wedging it between the Paris & Blue Six. As Montana already, the flow seemed to be interrupted by the Paris track imo. I remember some vocals about "being back" Unique theme. Nice, nice mix for summer nights. You're going places, kid0. Now I'll bear down and grit you somehow involving this in threads everywhere for the next month.

I have grown very close to this city and made some really good freinds which will be VERY hard to leave behind... I have became a DJ here. WHen i started spinning in Peru I had nothing- no direction, not perspective, nada- being here in a small scene has really allowed me to take the time necessary to look for my sound (havent found it yet, but I'm getting closer everytime I mix). the Tim Paris track pwns btw so go away kthnx. I thought you miss queen of the boom bada ba tinka tonk donk diddly wang wong would hate this sort of sound- Thnaks for bearing down and gritting me ! It's a shame you won't be in Sevilla, but one day we will meet... and our curly hair will unite in a ball of fire leaving us both bald but amused.

Thanks again!

ok. I gotta say its the best mix form you i've heard in a while. I love the summery feeling it has, especially cause its still preety cold here. You are best at spinning this sexy house music, and it was just what i needed after listening to all the techy electro sounds.
This music is very organic, and i love how the set picks up the energy slowly.

And thanks for playing Warsaw, i know you did it just for me

Just got done listening to this mix at work. Nice flow, great tracks, the mixing is ace as usual. Only thing though, I don't see it as a "summery set". Maybe we have different views of a summer vibe, but when I think summer, I think the beach, the sun, kick ass day parties. So I was thinking this would be some funky, moving, paolo mojo-ish/pete tong hybrid of good time vocals and fat bass. Just didn't deliver that way

Or maybe it's because WMC is over and now i'm expecting all the funkier, big room stuff to be making it's way into people's demos

Then what is my mix then? Thanks bas, I'm glad you enjoyed it even know it wasn't what you thought it would be .. Everyone is backwards in LA anyways...

Thanks stren! I've really been getting kind of "sick" of the really digital sounds constantly, so I've been tryng to get that organic sound.. its tough sometimes, but It came together on this one! Cheers!

WHATEVER! We're not backwards, YOU guys are backwards! What with your cows, and you're mango kulfi...and yeah like I said. "Summery" to me means higher energy funkeh house. But still a great mix Scorchio made my day at work awesome.

actually no! I rate this one as one of your tops. I don't know what's happening I think I've become bored with the boom splick tings. It's so nice to hear full sound again, like eating homegrown cherry tomatoes for the first time.

Posted by montana on Apr-18-2006 14:39:

i think it is a summermix, but not in the really in your face type, the big hed kandi/defected sounds to much even if is summer anthem stuff, this mix is more of the laidback approach. something you would play if ever being on the beach 'til 9pm and just soaking in the sun until it's time to go back to the place to get ready to go bump in the night.

and once again
Crosses (Hulkkonen Mix) = OMG TUNE
Scorchio = one big mother of a tune.

Posted by nils on Apr-18-2006 14:41:

very very good! pretty nice mixing and a fucking fabulous tracklist. i really like the mood it's providing, you know. as good as every song in the mix is something that i'd enjoy separately, and i'm having trouble finding mixes that 'has that'. thumbs up for this - it's the best i've heard in a while and to end it all with scorchio... ace! thanks man

btw, you should give metro area - orange alert (dfa remix) a listen. imo it's better than the original

Amazing mix man, the beginning makes me think of a lazy late evening in Bombay, the city sluggish from the intense heat and humidity. As the mix progresses I get the image of a city stirring as the heat subsides. In this way it feels very summery to me, not the traditional Western summer, but a summer on the other side of the world.

Amazing tracks, amazing mixing; this is your best yet that I have listened to!

Posted by Orbax on Apr-19-2006 16:09:

I love it. Its like listening to an anime where there is a series of snapshots of a heat so oppressive that it weighs the soul down. Heat moves through the air, and people dont.

Then at the 7 minute marker there is movement. A young hero awakens.

Would also be a good return from the best time of your life song. Just a thoughtful reverie of what was and how youre changed.

I love it!
