Best Trance Album/Compilation out there so far?
Sup guys.
Well, what prompted me to bring this topic was the following.
I decided to dig through my CD's and found tranceport. Not like I forgot about it but I felt like listening to some oldies..
AS I listened, I felt nostalgic. I was not even into trance when this Compilation came out, and it carried upfront trance tunes, this tunes really described what trance its supposed to be about, tunes that have withstand the test of time, something that tunes Now-adays dont. Today's trance come and go.. they seem to never reach that statue of tunes in the beginning, and appear to just lack that quality of feeling. They just tend to reach the status of commercialism. But that brings a whole different debate onto the evolution of music and the state of trance.
So I thought, what would be considered the best trance album / compilation out there so far within it's spam of 14+ years??!?!
Ive thought of Paul van Dyk's Out There and Back.. that its perhaps the best Artist Solo trance album.. into compilations, one of today's most hated DJ, Paul Oakenfold, who once would really rule and be a signature in what the sound of trance really was.
I say Tranceport its perhaps one of the best representations of the trance sound.. I could go back in time and say some other album, and It would be cool to see it what other people might know of even older albums/compilation. Its like KLF - Chill-Out album in the era of Ambient/chill-out sound. But which albums best represents trance music?

1. Time (Original Mix)- The Dream Traveler
2. Greece 2000 (Original Mix)- Three Drives On A Vinyl
3. Rendezvous (Quadraphonic Mix)- Tilt v. Paul Van Dyk
4. Purple (Sasha v. The Light)- Gus Gus
5. Someone (Slacker and Original Vocal Mix)- Ascension
6. El Nino (Matt Darey 12" Mix)- Agnelli + Nelson
7. Cafe Del Mar (Three N One Remix)- Energy 52
8. 1998 (Original Mix/PVD Mix)- Binary Finary
9. Words (For Love (Original Mix)- Paul Van Dyk
10. Gamemaster (Original Mix)- Lost Tribe
11. Enervate (Original Mix)- Transa

Whats yours?! Which Album and/or Compilation do you think in your criteria best represents the sound of trance over the spam of years/history of it?

Dont forget "THE MIX" CD yo!
That was definitely an ear opener for me.
Also, SHADOW LOUNGE 2nd Anniversary CD.
Truly a gem!
The Acosta CDs mentioned are indeed great. I really love the bangin stuff on Release AM Edition (French Kiss anyone?), or some of the songs on Awake like Stray Dog Mirror. For those who don't know Stray Dog = Tiesto.
As for Oakie's Tranceport CD, that's just an anthems CD. It's like taking 6 great tracks from 2004 and 6 more from 2005. Think about it: Tranceport was released in late 98 and featured HUGE Trance anthems from 1998 and 1997. So it's not really true to say there were better Trance records back then.
Oakie actually released a better anthems CD a few months later, a double CD titled Resident (he was a monthly resident for 2 years at Cream...around the same time Paul Van Dyk held a similar residency at Gatecrasher)

If you really want to talk about Trance classics, you'd want to bring up Kimball Collins CDs from the mid 90s, or Sasha & Digweed's Northern Exposure West Coast edition. Armin Van Buuren's first release was on it, a classic from Sven Vath, some William Orbit, etc.

10 years and counting...
Well i've been listening to Trance myself about 10 years now. There are so many great albums it's hard to pick one. For listening i really have to say Markus Schulz Coldharbour sessions 2004 is great...for newer cd's i'd say.
Going back, people can rag on oakenfold all they want but he really did deliver from 1996-2000 or so....no doubt. I love the 2 disc import set-- LIVE 2 YEARS RESIDENCY AT CREAM fantastic cd which i highly recommend. Of course the GATECRASHER WET ALBUM is great as well. I love the "classics" from 97-00...the glory days of trance. They need to bring some more talent back into MIami---JON O'BIR is a fantastic TRANCE DJ from the UK--saw him in Chicago---he'd blow the roof off down here if he came. my 2 cents
