Richard Gale - Just The Way U Are (uplifing and progressive) Marcus schulz style

hey guys.

as you will have noticed, my tracks have been a bit techy recently. this track is pure me this time. deep atmospheric and dreamy.

i wanted to make a track you could just fall into without knowing.

as always i hope you like it and id like some constructive crit if you got any

ps. bass is yet to be sidechained to the kick- i cant work out how to work sidechaining in cubase and it really needs it here..

hey there! .
yea i notice the bass needs sidechaining .
youve got some cool sounds in there right now though.

isnt that much too complain about in this tune, the melody that comes in is cool.
i think the bass "pad" is being to loud, you maybe want too lower it.

good job

Very laid back, definately not my glass of tequila but I like the sounds. Very easy on the ears and nice progression throughout the track. Bass pad I dont like though. Gets boring after a while.

Aside from that, everything seems well done.

Hey Rich,

The track is not playing on your myspace, as soon as it does play I will check it out. Looking forward to it actually

Posted by soundrush on Apr-24-2006 18:35:

hey rich.

unique sound.

i think the best of this track are the percusions and the pads.

percussions do have a good flow, kick is very solid, i like it. good work on the pads. sounds great in the break. pretty dark.

bass needs to be sidechained indeed. but instead of sidechaining you could add a long attack to the bassline and drop the bassnote on every bar. i know its not the same but it sounds good sometimes.

alltogether your track sounds solid.

cheers, nik.

Good percussion. The synths sound very nice.
The track lacks drive, but I'm thinking that will be somewhat sorted when you sidechain the bass. Maybe add a longer "clap" (pink noise, snare or whatever) on the 2nd and 4th beats.

As said before, "this track should keep blood pressure down to safe levels"
Very relaxing, nice to listen too. A sidechain would do great, make the track even better.

Perc is nice, sounds like they are phasing sometimes and that makes them very nice to listen too, and it also helps to build the atmosphere.

I love the melody! Just my style Mystic.

I don't agree about adding a clap. Your clap is perfect as it is ...

Seing forward to the final.

Posted by Nomen Nescio on Apr-24-2006 20:17:

Rich mate please for the final and last time: USE HIHATS!!!! You are incredible in the atmospheric department, I am totally digging the whole track but it lacks the drive that M.I.K.E for example has. For godsake, hihats are the easiest part of a track. Just one open hat going behind the kick on every bar to give the track that normal drive. And then just add two quicker hihat loops , pan one to the right one to the left. Or use a shaker or a cymbal in a quicker notation.

For the rest I am loving this atmopshere and all other elements are superb (when u sidechain the volume of the bass to the kick it will even become bigger) mate, but you are very very stubborn son

Cheers!

Hey Richie

I agree with Menno mainly, the atmosphere is excellent, but the track lacks drive in the percussion part. I wouldn't say it is uplifting either, its quite a sad reflective melody.
It's definitely your style though, but I think to make it more driving and interesting you will need more percs , as well as the bassline being sidechained.

Cheers!
Ricky

listening with some buffering problems..

hmm.. Marcus Schulz style.. personally i find Schulz`s music too be boring.. and so is the first part of ur track.. it gets more interesting at 4-5 minutes though.. but im having some serious buffering problem and it halts.. the bass and kick is nice.. nice sounds..

Posted by covert23 on Apr-24-2006 22:17:

nice n chilled

good track chugs away nicley.......if you want to sidechain in qbase the only way ive found is with the db plugins compresor...its the only vst comp with sidechain that ive found recently that has sidechain function...set the kik send to chanell b then get another compressor on the base and set the receive chanell to b,,,that should allow you to sidechain sucessfully have fun...michael.....

liking the atmosphere and melodically this is what i enjoy with you. not a big fan of the tech stuff although appreciate the work put into it. back to this loving the melody really relaxing. the track does require some percs to give it a bit more drive.

the first part of the track requires more lift. something to fill certain areas until the breakdown.

breakdown atmosphere is awesome. dont know if i like the bass, maybe this is too do with the sidechaining (something i have yet to conqeur ). think it just lacks warmth at the minute. been working on a track at the minute and have the same problem.

after breakdown still has the rich style but again lacking the drive. its a chilled track. you need to make it more pumping if it is too be played in clubs. a harder kick could even give it a bit more punch.

overall i like it. its really nice melodically and has a nice vibe to it. small issues that can easily be solved in this.

nice work mate!

thanx guys

so nice to receive comments like this.

soundrush and eldritch - i think a little perc and some sidechaining to the bass will liven things up. the idea on making the bass chop when the kick comes in was an idea i was thinkin of but couldnt get it to work..

speactra - the sidechain will be added!!! its just a case of getting it to work... - ill send you a nice 320 when its done

mr m and menno - sidechain will come... i need a personal tutor with experience with cubase sl 2.0.. a high hat on the offbeat i think will help in percs.- thanks nomen you devil

subtle - cheers mate - i understand about m s being a bit boring sounding. i love his sound tho. this was meant to grab attention but ended up being a dreamy number.

covert - cheers mate. but to be honest i wish your explaination of sidechaining was as easy as it sounds- i cant get it to work.

barry - cheers my friend. - more percs will be the order of the day- to built more drive. - let me know when you manage to sidechain on you cubase. then tell me how!!

cheers mates

Posted by Speactra on Apr-25-2006 12:57:

Are you sure you want any more drive in this, as it is a very chilled track?
I think it works as it is, maybe some more percs, but not to much driving percs... Thats my opinion though...
You'll get more drive when youre getting the sidechain to work too...

ok...:-) nice kick

those bass sweeps would use sidechaining in the looong note...

the intro sounds a bit too long to me...got bored of it before the lil synth came in...sorry...

otherwise clean sound and nice production :-) good job!

when it builds up it's pretty cool...liked!

Posted by richg101 on Apr-26-2006 12:24:

hey guys:0)

thanx for all the nice replies.

sidechaining is something that at last i know how to do on cubase.

so the bass and kick are no longer hurting each other.

booster. i know what you mean. intro is long but i wanted to have it long enough for a good long progressive mix-in when djing.

cut off about 45 seconds from the intro (while its being mixed) and then it shouldnt be so boring.

cheers guys

rich
