Idea Multi-Band Side-Chaining

It's probably done already, but I don't really care...

I've been experimenting with the idea of multi-band side-chain compressing. I do all my side-chaining on Fruity Peak Controller, so it might be a bit amateurish, though what I've done could, I guess, easily be done in a real Side-Chain Compressor.

Listen to this (just something I threw up in a minute in FL):
http://www.fileden.com/files/2967/M...de-chaining.mp3

In the first part nothing is done other than compressing the kick a bit.

In the second part I side-chained all the elements with the kick using Fruity Peak Controller.

In the third part I side-chained all the elements with the kick using Fruity Peak Controller too. I just did it multi-band style using 4 channels and a band filter on each. Those 4 channels had the kick on input of course. This means that for instance the area around 600 is not as side chained as the area around 80, which is how kicks normally look. Make sense?

The settings such as the amount of dB lowered on the two different side-chains are the same. The decay speed too.

Isn't this a neat idea and trick?

I guess I could write a tutorial on this one too.

Here's the flp if you want it:

The kick is in the zip-file. You must have the TBL and FM7 VSTi's for the file to work properly though, but you'll probably get it anyway.
Hint: watch the parametric EQ under FX6 'Multi SideChain'. Also mute the sounding kick and unmute the Peak Controllers for the band-filtered kicks.

Probably one of my biggest bug bears with Fruity is the lack of ability to Side Chain with a compressor rather than the peak controller.

Is that the 'Exciting' patch I hear from the FM7?

I would say it's worth doing a tutorial on. There is always someone who will benefit from it.

Cheers
Nem

Spot on Nemesis44, it's the 'exciting' patch ;P

JustinMead, I will post the .flp now. I meant to do so from the start, but I guess I forgot it ;P
