There are still good people out there

So last thursday night im completely jetlagged and exhausted from my flight from Manila. I had been travelling with connections for 24 hours not including the drive from Buffalo. Somehow i didnt realize my passport had fallen out of my pocket as i unloaded my junk in a back ally on college st. Not until the next day when i got a phone call from a really nice man who said he found it as he was collecting grease from a restaurant at 5am. He said not to worry as the post office was mailing it back to me for free. This guy wouldnt even give his name when i asked him because he didnt want anything in return. He said "just return the favour to someone in the future if you happen to be in a position to help them".

It's nice to see that there are still people in this world willing to take time out of their day to help a complete stranger. Not only is my passport hard to replace and expensive, but it has all the souvenir stamps of the places ive been.

At the risk of sounding cocky and "full of myself", i just wana tell this story. I was at the local comic store a couple months ago and i found a 100 dollar bill just sitting there on the shelf. Then i looked over and saw that this little kid crying and explaining to his dad how he had it but he must have dropped it somewhere. I could have easily kept it but decided to give it back. Now that's great and all, but what pissed me off was that neither the dad OR the kid (he was like 12 or 13) said thank you. The dad just fuckin yanked the bill outa my hand and went off. Don't know what the point of that story is, but it just really got me mad.

Francis (avikonen) once dropped his wallet at the airport in NYC on the way to TO, and lucky for him, the guy called him when he landed. Even luckier, the guy was on the next plane to TO. Back to the airport we went to meet the guy. His friend had arrived to pick him up and he was in a rush. We told him to leave it at an information desk or something, but he wouldn't, which was starting to raise our suspicions, thinking he may demand 'ransom' to get it back. Well, Fran met him and he just handed it over, wouldn't even accept a reward.

weird thing:

I was at the drug store (this was about 3 years ago) and i found a 100 dollar bill and 2 50 dollar bills....i never found this amount of money before (obviously!). i gave it to the cashier and that was that. THEN! the very next day i was at work and found a HUGE amount of money!! I counted it and it totalled up to almost $900! I was freaking out lol. But i told my boss what I found, and they said that they would hold it for a month and see if anyone comes to claim it. nobody came. so they gave me half of it. that is my story lol.

Lucky lucky Jay!!

Replacing the passport could have been the least of your worries if it fell into the wrong hands!

And big ups to all the honest people here on TA. You guys rock!

happened to my dad about a month back. he left a brand new camcorder at the airport. got a call the next day from some guy saying he found it. guy took out the mini disk and watched the video of the crew spraying my dads coating onto a pipe and saw the sticker with the company name. he traced my dad through the company name and returned the camcorder.

Pay it Forward is easily one of the most selfless concepts out there. Nice to see someone has embraced the idea!

I've returned 2 cell phones dropped on the ground at clubs. Feels good to do something right once in a while.

I always seem to be the person who finds things that people have dropped, lost or forgot somewhere. It feels good to know that you have relieved someone of thier worries or that you made thier day by telling them that you found thier stuff.

i dunno..they are just sorta selfish like that. that's why i quit. (not because of the money thing lol....because i couldn't stand working for people like that). I would have been a lot more happy if they donated it to charity or something instead.
