So how bad was your Miami cell phone bill?

Even after adding on US roaming minutes, my phone bill came to $489.80, and Graham's was $205.25. My 240 roaming minutes were used up by Sat (I arrived on Wed), and I made $100.80 in text msgs alone.
Combined w/my internet & cable bill, they total $827.68.

OUCH! Hon! That is awful!

Next time, I'm putting unlimited minutes on my phone and just handing it to you.

sucks!

may i suggest using

who's the provider?! Rogers?!

Posted by KaiLee on Apr-25-2006 19:23:

I bet you it's Telus.....

Those cellphone sluts....they just can't get enough of our money.

Posted by Mag1k on Apr-25-2006 19:25:

If its Rogers all you have to do is talk to them...

They always find a way to make you payless

Posted by Abercrombie on Apr-25-2006 19:42:

While I was in St. Lucia during that time, texts with Rogers were an additional 40cents, so for me it was worth it. Though last sumemr while I was in NYC, calls were almost $3 a minute (roaming and long distance with taxes included)! gasp.

Rogers suggested get on their CAN-US plan before I get on my next holiday, and cancel when I get back. Nice guy.

If you add US minutes with Rorgers it is prorated - so - if you plan to go for a week in the middle of your billing cycle don't just get it the day before you leave and cancel it the minute you get back - that way you'd only have 25% of those extra minutes eligible for the discount

(since you weren't part of the plan for the other 3 weeks...)

Its Rogers, and since when do they do that? Believe me, I've called b4 when I was slapped with these bills early on. This is probably the 4th or 5th bill like this I've had in the past couple years. It's mental. If you have some secret to getting a few bucks knocked off, please let me know!

Yes- u MUST add them on the day your billing cycle begins. I've made that mistake a few times and paid dearly.
This time I did it right, but it just wasn't enough minutes. Not to mention I didn't know about the costs per text msg.

good negotiating skills

While I was on my contract I was screwed... Once it finished all i had to do was call them.
I never had a bill less than $100-150, so basically i made sure to point that out
Tell them that no way are you paying that much and that you didnt know exactly how much it would cost. Ask them if there is anything they can do, if they tell you they cant do anything ask to talk to their management. Cause usually they really cant do crap at the representative level. Once the higher ups come, talk to them and explain the situation. Ask if there is anyway they can put those minuts under a different plan or something. For me all they usually did was put my minutes under an insane plan that I would have never consider getting but it still ended up being considerably less than the bill.

Ive had that happen to me once or twice and it worked out best. Just dont take no for an answer .

wow and I would cry when I got a $50 phone bill.

Next time, get off the phone, and get on the dance floor!

I wonder if that would work considering I'm on an automatic monthly payment plan w/my credit card?

Jesus man, what do you do, fall asleep while talking on the cellphone?

It's like people have an umbilical cord connected to their phone...

Posted by Refinnej on Apr-25-2006 21:48:

Here are some tricks to try to get some $ knocked off that bill..have fun bullshiting Rogers:

1. Be persistent but kind, not rude to the CSR
2. Do you pay your bills on time? If so, then point that out to them for negotiating
3. Did you call before you went to Miami to get info on your roaming and LD rates? If you did, then 99% of the time the CSR will note that on your file so it's kind of hard to BS that they never told you especially if you admit you called to find out the rates. If you didn't call, then play stupid as if "How was I supposed to know it would cost THIS much?"
4. Have you been a customer for very long? If so, then point that out as well
5. If the CSR refused to credit at least half of the charges, then say "I want to cancel then". Do not ask to speak to their "manager" because most of the time it's just some person that is walking the floor that isn't their direct supervisor though they like you to think that they have some power. After you say you want to cancel they will then transfer you to the retention dept. Their job is to keep you as a customer even if it means crediting back half of your bill. Something is better than nothing right?
6. At that point the person in retention will likely give you back some amount especially if you haven't abused credits from Rogers in the past. They will really leave detailed notes on your account so that next time you call in it's gonna be twice as hard to BS them and the person will really give you a big speech on roaming/LD rates.

I was expecting 350. Got 198 or something.

The fucking girl did screw me over tho.

She upsold some long distance shit that didn't even do anything for my bill. I could have saved that money and payed of the 94 dollars in texts! Ha Ha.

Posted by Jem_hadar on Apr-25-2006 21:53:

Nat

Just one more reason Im glad I've never gotten "accustomed" to the convenience and wonderfulness of having a cellphone.

Never ever owned one and thus I dont "miss" not having one, even while everyone else I know has one.

At times its horribly inconvenient, but you (I) get by. Id FLIP if I had an 800$ cellphone bill!

I dont think its even worth paying 30-40$ a month for a cellphone! (for me anyways)

Jem

lol.. that sucks for sure, but this is why everyone should have blackberries. Yes the plan costs you more but then you can PIN and forget all about the txt msg's and don't have to pay anything extra for travelling.

Nathalie, I feel your pain though. Everytime I go to Holland, the next month my blackberry/internet/cable bill is always a good $500+ from using my phone overseas or emailing from it or txt'ing (cuz not many others have blackberries ) Hopefully you can work something out with them.

Posted by VERTiG0 on Apr-25-2006 21:57:

My biggest phonebill was $298 from Bell back in February. Woooohah.

Posted by chinaboy1021 on Apr-25-2006 22:04:

why the hell did you talk and text so much?

Posted by 4-play on Apr-25-2006 22:11:

$900+ (Faiz + Me combined)

Ah, but with your unlocked Blackberry you can get a local SIM card to put in there and that will at least keep your bills down for communicating with the locals. You may just have to tell everyone else not to expect much contact while you're overseas to keep the costs down.

Ahhhh shitty!! That sucks Nat!!

Josh learned the hard way when we went to NYC in Novemeber. He made like 4 short calls while there and it cost him over $100. So when I went back in March I made sure to limit calls and text msgs. I ended up getting out with about $50. Not too bad. It sucks b/c it's not like roaming in Canada, it's international

Communication with other people while there most likely. And sometimes you just can't resist texting or calling friends back home to tell you how much fun you're having!

What about the time when they were sending people like 5 bills a month and telling everyone to pick which one they wanted to pay.
I warned you about Bell. I had their service for a year, a long time ago, and will never go back. Cell phone companies all have their flaws but Bell is by far the worst! Everyone I know who dealt with them left the company in a screaming match.
