Worm Popper I'm visiting JAX

Hi I'm from Philly and visiting Jacksonville to visit my lil' bro on May 20th; was planning on seeing Adam Sheridan @ Ocean Club but I know no one in JAX and nada about it... anyone got "must do" tips, suggestions, planning on going to sheridan; or know where to record shop?

Please tell me this is light hearted humor and not the sour, stuck up hatorific attitude that Philly peeps have.....

Don't pay any attention to them...welcome to Jax..it's a small but growing scene here...you should check out the Blue Room on Sunday this weekend, Gabriel and Dresden will be there and Markus Schultz is coming in a few weeks...they put on some pretty good shows there, we just had Danny Howells a few weeks back, and in the past (year/year and a half or so) have had Desyn Masiello, Luke Fair, James Holden, James Zabiela, Satoshi Tomeii (sp?), Danny and many others. Also the Ocean Club gets some good shows, depending on what scene you are into. Infusion was just there a coouple of weeks ago.

As far as stuff to do, the Beaches are (at least can be)fun, St. Augustine is very cool. Amelia Island is very pretty and a fun day trip too. The Blue Room, like I mentioned before, is small but has a good sound system and I actually enjoy seeing shows there. Ocean Club isn't the best palce, usually b/c of the crowd, but it is pretty cool having a club right on the beach, esp. if somebody worth seeing is there.

Many people in FL not from Jax think this is just a redneck town with sketchy people and a sketchy scene-well they may be right for the most part, but there really are some good people here! It seems whenever I try and talk to others from around the state at shows here in Jax they have some sort of attitude about Jax and the people here. All in all most are there to have a good time and although the crowds ususally aren't husge and we don't have the nicest clubs like in Miami and SOFL etc. the crowds are usually VERY into it and the DJ's like playing here-esp big names b/c they don't get an opportunity to paly small venues with a good, responsive crowd anymore. Like I said, it's not the most glamorous, big city scene, but I have seen PLENTY of awesome shows here and had a lot of fun.

I'll get off the soapbox now...welcome to Jax.-hope you enjoy the city while you are here-I'm sure at least the weather is better here than in Philly! Any other Jax people out there want to comment?

I'll only be down the weekend of the 20th; so looks like G&D are out for me... I think they are in NYC soon.. could be a distinct disadvantage being far away from NYC; but you can always trade it for Miami...

while watching Tiesto in concert i said "oh oh! that's my favorite color!" My friend asked which one.. I responded "all of them!"

Florida TA has declined a bit through the years - this used to be a great forum; maybe I'm just getting too old.

Anyway - I was going to tell you that Enation.org would be a GREAT place to check out...but...

You're already there! Great choice! Enation.org is a bit different than TA - but some really great people in there.

Good luck!

-R

guess i agree for the most part.
while in no way i run around for the "trance scene" out here.
i end up at ocean club sometimes.
dont like it whenits kids nite.
crowds get thick.
i like that new irish pub on that corner.
i dont mind the ritz because its clean people.
but then it gets overpacked.
everysunday we have beach volleyball leagues.
then we go drink free beer at sneakers.
then we go to campeche bay for more drinks.
then one of the several more choices there.
didnt know markus was coming fuzzy keep me informed pls.

Being one of the oldest TAs and oldest FLTAs period i can tell you that the FL forum has fallen off. Its not like it used to be, theres way too many new people and honestly not all of them know wtf they are talkin bout.

As far as jacksonville goes, its never been a great place for EDM. Though in the last 3 years the Blue Room has really came through. G&D has came twice, along with other quality acts here and there. As far as local "talent" its all the same people that were playin for 10 years now. The thing is that its not about the music you play, or your knowledge of the music or your dj "skills". Its about who you know and if your part of the small group that pretty much runs the jacksonville EDM scene. Even tho i did get the chance to spin up in the Blue Room on several occasions, but it was way too early in the night for anyone to hear me throw down.

So I wont complain because PVD, G&D, and 2nd Sun have been here and in 1999 i woulda never thought i'd see the day. Props goto Dj Kenesis and Josh Biznack for bringin in strong talent. I just wish they'd have me spin again so i can show people the kind of tunes i get with my connections here on TA.

Msg me on MSN msger @ [email protected] if u'd like to know whats goin down in jax at any given time.

if you are going i would get tix early. Should only be like 5 bucks more at the door but still its 5 bucks. That place is dead on sundays which is kinda cool you can get right up to the dj and chat with them and overall its a different time had then if it was packed house. But if there is a big name in town it will bring more out. Should be a good time.
