*track 2 was mixed with Gabriel & Dresden - Arcadia [Organized Nature]
**track 8 containes a vocal from Markus Schulz ft Departure - Without You Near [Coldharbour]

The mix starts off at 124bpm and slowly build up to 128.

I took a different approach to this mix. For those who were familiar with Acquiescence (favorite old and new tracks at the time of recording) and Inspiration 2 (tracks selected and arrainged based on how their keys interact) I decided to combine the two concepts in this one. Old vs new while attempting to create a seemless soundscape in every sense.

I took what I've learned from past mixes to try to make this one surpass the previous mixes as far as sound quality is concerned, and for the first time decided to host the mix in 320kbs.

At any rate, objective feedback is always welcome and appreciated, and I hope everyone enjoys. Thanks

PS: There will be a CD 2 of this that will be in the mid 130's for the trance lovers, still a work in progres as I have not located enough current trance tracks that suit my taste. More details on that as things develop.

I like it too. Have to Say matt You are a talented Dj here in Houston thnkz for sharing! SHARING IS CARING

Thanks guys.

I'm interested to hear any contructive feedback regarding the second track which was a combination of Through with you with bits from Arcadia backing up the bassline/harmony. The two were in the same exact key and bpm so I used Sonar to bootleg the combined re-edit. Originally I was going to have Arcadia much more noticable but decided the subtle mix was a better solution..but as before I'm interested to hear opinions on it.

05 Hanna & MV - Mr Roboto (Stef Vrolijk remix) [Little Mountain]

I like the closing.

Haven't really heard any of your recent mixes but you have really gotten better since I last heard you. Good job Matthias.

Downloading. Your tracklist looks SOLID. I'll listen to it tomorrow while I study 12 hours for my final. I've been downloading as many sets as I can find to hold me over.

320kbps + sennheiser 580s =

Its all good. I removed a good chunk from the track cuz I didn't like the "Mr Roboto" vocals, so there's a beat drop in there that sounds a bit sudden..I chose it though the bassline alot. Mainly chose this cuz the first half mixed so well (from my perception) with the last half of the Sonar track before it.

hehe, not trying to sound overly-defensive but I had to point a few things out. If they made an intrumental version of the track, that woulda been cool. Thanks for the input

a lot of this sounds really good, great songs. a few bits that I "disagree" with (such as, I really like the Mr Robato vocals) but overall enjoyable. Haven't given it a solid, straight-through listen yet, but it's good stuff.

what did you use to do your special edits, and did you do it live or prerecorded? And then, what equipment did you use for the mix?

The edits are prerecorded done in acid 5 using percussion lines from a roland mc 909 and samples from thomas penton's sample cd. I use the C1 compressor from the Waves bundle to sidechain the percussion to the track (more reinforcing than replacing). After which I run the track through T-Racks to clean up the EQs. That's not to say I don't do any live remixing. I was doing a bit of it in McAllen and even have some video footage of the Tiesto event taken from a my friend Brittany. Once I have a way to get it from her and get it hosted Id be happy to display it.

As for the recording mixes I use 2 CDJ 1000s, a Xone: 92 mixer, and I record the mix into Sonar 5 producer edition via a M-Audio 24/192 sound card. I usully have it set so that the loudest peak will not go past -2.0 to prevent clipping errors. After recording I use the l2 ultramaximer and a few others for mastering purposes. So there ya go.

I'm hearing alot of people these days using Ableton Live 5.0 for both purposes (live remixing and contructing mixsets rather than recording, etc) but I have not had enough hands-on with the program to fully learn how to use it.

As for as the Mr Roboto vox, I didnt like em as first but they kinda grew on me, again..main decision for including the track was that I loved the bassline . Kenneth Thomas dropped the track in McAllen and it owns on a large system.

ableton live seems like it's nice, but only if you have a physical MIDI controller. From what I know, the Xone:92 is well equipped, but I'm on a Xone:62 and the thought of using a touchpad or mouse to twiddle knobs in realtime is just a big NO in my book.

I'm actually debating my next upgrade. Can't make up my mind between CDJ-1000's, and getting a Xone:92 and using ableton on my laptop. And this is further complicated by a large part of me recoiling at the thought of moving away from vinyl. Ugh.

I'd probably upgrade to using ableton for the producing cabailities as well...but I'd like to save up and get a decent Mac first. Im at the point of giving up producing on a PC since mine keeps fuckin up half the time for some ungodly reason. I really dont wanna talk about it.. but yeah. Lack of money and lack of shit that will run and not fuck up the creative flow are the main 2 reasons im spending more money at the liquor store than on music purchases.

Posted by progressiveMOJO on May-19-2006 20:56:

on the ableton/production topic: is it possible to set things up such that the signal from your turntables gets fed realt-time to Ableton, or is there any incompatibility with using turntables and ableton at the same time? Maybe it's just stupidity, but I refuse to get rid of vinyl, at least at home. The stuff is just too much fun to use. I did a weekly radio show at a station that only had a couple of crappy CD decks (some shit American DJ things) and it just wasn't the same.

I honestly couldn't have an aswer for ya there. I'm more than certain someone on the producer forum should know.
