pretty bulletproof argument if you ask me...

Posted by RapidFire on Apr-28-2006 20:08:

yes because clearly a fairytale written by monks 2000 years ago is a better argument than scientific fact.

Posted by Orbax on Apr-28-2006 20:10:

Normal Christians think that that stuff is ridiculous too hehe.

Posted by Vlad on Apr-28-2006 20:11:

That Genesis vs. Evolution thing is so vague its rediculous... the Evolution stuff is much more thorough than what they wrote there.

But the creation stuff isn't!

Posted by Orbax on Apr-28-2006 20:18:

Its weird to me that anyone would argue this stuff. I would say it had about 0% relevancy to what Jesus talked about. Paul wasn't out there denouncing the Romans for using their "crazy science"

but dude! they're verses from the BIBLE! THE BIBLE! ...a thousand year old written account of superstitious folktale that's been translated across a dozen dead languages before it reached english and editted a thousand times by the rich and powerful church who was the ruling power in the world at the time. there's no way it could be wrong! no way!

You sound as ignorant as the creationists when you put it that way.

Posted by Pjotr G on Apr-28-2006 20:26:

there's a difference between the old testament and the new testament.

Also as recent as 600 years ago every1 was 100% sure the world was flat.

Posted by Floorfiller on Apr-28-2006 20:31:

one time i watched a show on the christian station PAX (if you know it)...and there was this dude giving a little sermon or something...

and seriously his argument was that other gods were false because they are lying...but our god is the real god because we're telling you the truth!

that's not an abbreviation...that's literally the justification he was giving hahaha

There is no way to know which one is true, its just whatever you believe.

I know. When the bible was originally written in greek from arameaic, than the romans translated it into latin - the greek text was pretty much forgotten until, i forgot the persons name, came along and decided to translate the latin text back into greek, but only using the greek texts - and it was found that back that the people who had translated the greek into latin had added in alot of verses that werent originally there. The church criticized the first edition of the translated bible and the person who wrote it said that there wasnt sufficient documentation that some stuff was there, thus the church fabriated documents in greek to give the guy so that he could add it into the second edition of the translated version of the latin bible. Thus different interpretations and translating through out the years destroyed the bible and there is no way to know what is authentic to the bible.

Science is pretty good these days. Saying that 600 years ago science was practically religion, doesnt mean that penicillin doesnt work and rocketry is based on guesses.

But, Like I said, this all has nothing to do with the ministry of Jesus. Its all what bored people argue for pretenses at being philosophers. Should have no bearing on issues of faith or the daily walk.

and that the universe revolved around earth hey, that galileo is challenging convention! KILL HIM in the name of god! how fitting... and egotistical religion and an egotistical view of the universe

Posted by Silky Johnson on Apr-28-2006 20:35:

You know, these religion debates and hating on teachings of the bible are so tired.

I understand hating on the people PREACHING these ideas, but to trash the ideas themselves is ludicrous. Nobody (aside from spiritual leaders) is telling anyone how to interpret the bible, or religion.

Humans seem to forget they have critical minds, capable of drawing their own conclusions and forming their own beliefs. So to dump all over these ideas that *can* be very valid is just as ignorant.

It wasnt until 1992, that the church accepted that the Earth revolved around the sun.

there is one thing we know though... for the last several hundred years the bible was used by it's "publishers" to control the masses. the divine right of monarchies, fighting and dying in crusades, submission to outrageous laws and taxation, it penetrated all aspects of life and even convinced people to gather by the thousands on battlefields to die for "divine" kings. no conflict of interest there!

if you can recognize patterns in history, i think the answer is pretty damn clear

Posted by Vlad on Apr-28-2006 20:44:

As far as I know the story of the woman who was considered guilty for adultery (in the Gospel of John), was added into the text of the bible when it was being translated from Greek to Latin... it is known for its famous quote...

"The man among you who has no sin - let him be the first to cast a stone at her."

Posted by Floorfiller on Apr-28-2006 20:46:

the one thing i've always found interesting about the bible is that basically it's a compilation of anonymous writings...just contemporary ideas that authorities put together to push a new religion in a unifying direction. the people that wrote these stories aren't holy in anyway...what makes the bible special besides the fact that it has historical importance? that just always bugs the hell out of me...
