time is passing really slowly

i am on shift this weekend. i work 12 hours fri, sat and sun night every other weekend. last night i slacked off cause i was being lazy but now i've come to the realization that i just don't have anything urgent that i need to be working on. it's making life really boring right now. and i still have 6 more hours to work tonight. *sigh*

i make drugs. though 12 hours is a rough estimate. since i am a supervisor, overtime laws don't apply to me. so my shift is usually more like 4 pm to 6:30 am. though on a saturdays i usually stick to a 12 1/2 hour shift.

usually i am really busy and it feels like there isn't enough time in a night. but i am all caught up with stuff for the moment.

lol no kidding
if you're knowledgable on the subject, any suggestions for something to keep by my bedside for nights like this when i can't get to sleep?
buncha people suggested nyquill but it just makes me feel drowsy and shitty, but not sleepy in the least

and if thats not your field really at all (more likely), well i can't sleep and i'm unhappy about it
worked 4pm-245am friday night then had to be back at work from 11am-430pm

didn't get to sleep till like 530-6 and ended up waking up to my boss calling me wondering where i was

i don't really make stuff like that but my friends tell me ambien works well. i don't believe that though - i took it on a flight once and i only slept for like 3 or 4 hours, which is pretty much normal for me.

yeah i've heard decent things about it, but i only have trouble like once a week or so, and my sleep schedule varies from week to week
i just wanna take something and pass out

12 hour shifts really arent that bad. generally i am really busy and the time flies. the best thing about 12 hour shifts is i get a lot of days off. i never work more than 3 days in a row and i get a three day weekend every other weekend.
