How much do you earn when you dj?
I don't know anything about it, but I want to start doing it though. But how much do you earn each time you dj somewhere? doesn't matter how long the mix is, nor where you do it, just post your earnings.
how much do you feel your time is worth?
$0.00
Generally DJ's with residencies in local clubs here in Melbourne earn $50-$75 AUD per set.
Larger profile DJ's that play in clubs around Australia can expect $100-$150 per set I reckon (guys like Scott Alert, John Ferris and Nik Fish).
Thanks Chubbs.
You should be HAPPY if you can even do a warm up in a club for free.
Hell you should be happy if they let you play if you PAID them.

I guess they arnt fun because you dont get to play as much of the music you like but they will help pay the bills.
I thaught people where earning more then that for there sets though.

Hmm yeah, it'd vary I reckon. Depending on the event, venue, capacity, shit like that..
mate of mine gets 50 for an hour, 100 for 2 hours and so on. Basically 50 per hour. Id play for nothing, Just having the priviledge is enough.. But in my mates case he is getting the priviledge to play plus he earnes enough to go buy another sets worth of vinyl. Thats more than id ever want!
Anyone here how much tiesto is charging these days? I forgotten the exact amount but im sure it was 5 figures after he done his concert? Crazy mofo.. He cant mix for shit these days and I used to enjoy tiestos earlier sets (~2000)
Getting 50 an hour is the same as $120 Aud.
I would be very happy getting that much because then it could pay for the vinyl or mp3s i buy.
If djing as a hobby supported it self but i still needed another job to live i guess i would be happy.
If i could live comfortably as just a dj and or producer it would be a dream.
Im sure most would agree.

.
the bedroom guys need to realize it's almost a totally different ballgame once you make it to the club and it starts becoming a job more than a hobby
i didn't like what i was starting to have to play week in and week out, the bullshit politics, and having to appeal to the lowest common denominator to get people through the door on a consistant basis
it's not a life for everyone, it's hard work and a lot of commitment
but if you work hard and know what you want you will get it
and like allied nations said, no matter your skill level, you are bringing your talent and skill along with all the hours you have invested in your craft, you shouldn't walk away empty-handed from a gig, even if it's just a couple comped drinks, you never should have to pay to play
if you do, you're not ready to play out

Originally posted by dj_palm doesnt it has something to do with your skills too? its not like driving the bus or being a teacher now is it? if ur good an famous (so u make people come) u will of cource earn more. if no-one know u or heard of you u wont make shit nomatter how good you are, if ur that lucky to get a dj-job. thats it here in norway atleast. dont think any of the djs here earn any.
but in the real world there is this thing called money, you need money to do things, and lately everyone is needing more and more
money = good
so if you're good at what you do, be compensated for it
if you think you're not ready to ask for payment for your time, then you're not ready to play out

Originally posted by DJ RJT Agreed, but you'd be shocked at the amount it occurs around here. As for me, the only consistent cash I see for playing is $150 a night for my (semi)-monthly 4.5 hour sets at a club back in my home town. Other than that, it's all over the place. Most I've made is $600 for 12 hours on NYE a few years back, but that was a one time gig, and a HUGE party that made far more cash than that. Beyond that, I've played plenty of gigs just for the sport of it... Most of those just being college house parties, but some of those have been some of the best nights I've played out in my life that no amount of money would ever compare to.

Originally posted by DJ RJT and I look up, and every single person in the basement is literally pounding out the conga line on whatever surface they can find, as hard as they can. The sound of them pounding out that percussive line overpowered the sound system we had set up in the basement (which was no slouch), and all you heard was these kids just drumming along. Finally, the track kicks back in, people go nuts, and I know immediately that this is a moment I'll never forget as long as I live.
