First sunburn of the summer!

Well, today was the day - finally got my first (decent) sunburn of the approaching summer!

Was reading outside after left work today for a few hours.

I just love that burning, tingling sensation, I can feel it developing on the back of my neck, my shoulders and on my face - esp my nose!

There's that subtle aroma too that you can smell when you know you've gotten a sunburn!

Cant wait to see good this burn this one turns out to be.

Damn I hate the prospect of cancer from these...

Jem

Suncream does help.

Seriously man, it's dangerous stuff.

You are officially the first person i've heard of actually
liking a sunburn.....
I've only had one my entire life - last yr's May 2-4

Posted by Jem_hadar on May-01-2006 07:06:

After being severely badly burnt twice in my life, I've found that the sensation no longer bothers me the way it used to (save for on my legs, that's still unbearable).

On my upper body, its just a different sensation than what I'm normally used to and I enjoy that difference.

I don't find it to be painful in a way that bothers me any longer. Ive been second degree burnt in spots w/ the balance of upper body with 1st degree thermal burns. Those were indeed excruciatingly painful.

But since those times (2x), any regular sunburn doesn't cause me enough pain to bother me.

My fear of melanoma is the only reason I don't allow myself ot get burnt more often.

One of my burns I wanted to remember from last summer:

Ok, is it wrong that I just got goosebumps looking at that. Looks like it hurt just a tiny bit.

It wasnt painless, im not saying that.

im saying that the sensation caused by sunburns on my upper body doesnt bother me to any real extent (within reason, obviously a 2nd degree burn would still bring about incredible amouns of pain again i am sure) and that i find the feeling to be interesting.

its not negative pain

And please, getting tanned and going to tanning salons isnt good for you either, unless its a sunscreen-protected induced tan, which will happen gradually (and safely) over time.

its laughable at how many ppl disregard the dangers from tanning at tanning salons.

(margs has it right, if you wanna be safe, dont be trying to tan urself either, its gonna potentially cause skin cancer like sunburns will)

A 1st degree burn would give you a world of hurt too.
Seriously, white bread- you need to use sunscreen at all times. Go for the tan, not the burn. Cancer isn't cool.

Yes exactly. It happens at a much slower rate b/c you're much more protected. It can happen, but with your case, god knows how many mutations has happened, that your body is trying to fix now, you're lucky you're young...
