Another Computer Problem

It seems my DVDRW drive doesn't recognize CDRs anymore, yet it will still read CDs, DVDs and DVDRs.

Help?

have had the exact same problem.

mine was caused by issues related to daemon tools and/or firmware programs to work around the bloody region coding of my DVD player.

disabling those programs fixed it for me.

For some reason System Restore never works. Not only that, but when I put a CDR in the DVDRW drive, it makes a weird sound. Doesn't do that with any other disc whatsoever.

have you tried flashing (updating) the drivers for your DVD drive?

What is the make and model of it?

goto start - control panel - system - hardware - device manager and click on the cdrom/dvdrom drives. What does it say verbatim there?

Damn. I appreciate the effort...I bought the drive off of Newegg.com if that helps any.

i'm not a specialist in dvd drives or anything, but i think it's more likely an hardware problem than software.

sorry, i think your drive is fucked.

those drives tend to last around 4 year. buy a new they're cheap

Judging by the sounds the drive is making, I'm inclined to agree with you.

That's what I'll have to do...

I think a new NEC drive is $40 . cheap

Posted by meneedit on May-01-2006 03:02:

updating the drivers doesnt help if it just started happening all of a sudden.

I'm surprised that "_Nut_" didnt think of this.

anyway DVD drives are well known for playing up. ur probably gonna have to get a new one. -but dont worry, it will all be good in the end
