Do you burn one track per CD or many?
I do one track per CD and prefer it that way, but burning more tracks per CD doesnt require a lot of CD cases..
what do you do?
One track per CD. Otherwise I lose tracks because the label is all cluttered with writing. Also, I like to arrange the tracks in key and some remixes of a track aren't in the same key.
i burn 10 tracks usually on one cd and than make a copy of it, so if i want to play a track from a cd that is playing i take the other copy and play it. its very funky imo

I used to put anywhere from 1 to 4 tracks on a CD, as long as I could label it on the actual CD without having to carry around printouts, which I will lose and spill drinks on.
I prefer to burn one per CD to arrange them by key, but due to lack of time I have been burning about 8-10 per disc and keeping a list on paper.
I feel like such a poon looking at a piece of paper while I'm mixing.
One track per CD? Yeah I agree..a waste. I just put however many songs there are on a release or by an artist. I just do everything by artist, unless there is only one track and then I do the 8 or 10 track per CD thing and make a copy, or if there's only one or two tracks I really like from a particular artist...
50 or so 320kpbs MP3s on one disc sorted by genre
eg. TRANCE 6 (MAY), next month or month after it'll be TRANCE 7 (JUNE)
, and HOUSE 4 (JAN-MARCH)
So all i have to do is think of the genre and roughly when I purchased the download...
i usually have abt 9 to 10 tracks in a cd...
Have the cd labelled ie. disc 1,2 ... etc
Organise the tracks using word/excel...
Search tracks from the the printed doc.
I think searching songs from the label in the cd case is just too slow imo... sometime really need to mix another track in fast.
Two copies of each disc, labeled as such...
One track per CD. I find it more practical because I like to leave notes in the wallet sleeve along with it (bpm, key, etc).
Also, when you burn one track to a disc you can rotate the ones in your case you don't play for new tracks a little easier IMHO. I don't want to be fishing around all over my case for that one track I want to mix in...I want it to be near the tracks its compatible with.
A good point about burning 1 track per CD is that there is less risk in the track fucking up in a club if the CD gets scratched or dirty as 1 track on a CD lies on the inner rim (or what ever the terminology is)
1 track per cd. if i need to put more than 1 song on cd its normally the remixes of the same tune that i enjoy and may play as well. if i clutter up cd with all these different artists and tracks, most likely i'll get all confused when trying to look for the right track to mix in.
as many as I can write on the cd and still read in poor lighting.

i'm still finding a way that works best for me. one thing i do regularly is burn doubles of my cd's. but i'm kinda getting more into stuffing cd's w/different tracks from one artist, or stuffing releases from one label into a cd.
i've also been burning cd's according to the party or slot that i have. i'm not digging this method as much. i think it work better if played mp3's. then i could just take 2-4 cd's to a party, and rock it for 12hrs.
to me one track per cd gets a little a little too close to defeating the savings over vinyl. especially when buying .wav's.

10 to 12 tracks per cd, and no tracklists in the wallet. I just play random stuff hehe

You will end up a mash-up dj mixing felix da housecat into kylie minogue just because they where both written in a-minor. If this is your thing go for it. why not with the tempo ? You won't remember a tracks tempo but you will remember a tracks release season so you leave much more room for improvisation coz you can find things. Why not with the name alphabetically in the blockbuster sense of things? Its way too random and doesn't help you capture a mood from a different era/year/party. My two cents. Hope this helps. |
Sooooo much work...
i'm j/digital... i could never be bothered to go through all the trouble you guys do just organize cd's. no way in hell i'm gonna sort/label my cd's by how many bars the phrases are, or rate how uplifting a track is by using a certain color marker on a scale of 1-10. ;p
i took a pic of 4 cd's in my book.
the two on the right represent cd's i burned just for a party.
one was compiled/labeled by record labels, the other by artists.
the two on the left, well the top one only means something to me. i know what's on there... just pure old school deep house, i ripped from various original cd singles, etc. the bottom is packed w/track-y stuff from just one label.
