Sonic - Heart & Soul
Heart & Soul into Sonic
My name is Nevio Persia, I am David Morales partner at Sonic. It has been a long journey getting here. It has been a long battle dealing with many of the old creditors of Boa, dealing with the landlord, and dealing with contractors. There have been a lot of sleepless nights for me and my wife. I am so proud of what I have accomplished and the people that I have working for me. We have all worked very hard to make Sonic special, a place like no other.
I am very honoured to have a partner like David, he has taught me so much in understanding the level of commitment required for us to reach perfection. We spent a lot of money getting the venue to where it is, and it is our home. As this being our home we still have a lot of work to do. There are still a number of personal touches that need to be added to this space. David and myself personally hand picked everything inside the club to make it feel warm and comfortable.
Saturday night was a great success for us and a great learning experience. We did our very best in planning to accommodate everybody but there were a few challenges that we faced unexpectedly.
First, we had over 1000 people show up at our front doors between 12:30 AM - 2:00 AM. For any club in this city to move that many people into a venue safely is a big challenge. We have already addressed the issue and we apologize to all of the advance ticket holders for all of the stress and frustration. From this Saturday forward we will be using the front Spadina entrance for advance ticket holders ONLY. Our paying customers and any guest list will be entering through the main entrance. The additional entrance, searchers, and security will eliminate any further chaos at the front door, and ensure that advance ticket holders are the number one priority to us.
Second, the issues with our front door staff has been addressed firmly. The issues were addressed as soon as management was made aware of what people were going through to get past the front door.
Third, is the coat check. Unfortunately we had two of our staff members call in sick which left us drastically under staffed. This left us having to use two bus boys (and a family member of our staff) to service the massive demand for people to check jackets. The coat check is capable of accommodating up to 1500 jackets, which is beyond our capacity and when it is properly staffed we will not have any further issues.
Fourth, the heat inside the club. We are looking into getting a proper exhaust system installed in the building. The A/C unit in the building works perfectly, unfortunately with the amount of sound insulation and sound treatment that the room has received, it holds a lot of moisture and heat. The additional lighting does not help either.
Everyone has my word and my heart. I said that I was Djing until midnight on Sunday night and I did for the 30 people that were still here. I still was not ready to let go. I am living a dream and have not come this far, put in this much blood, sweat, and soul to let you all down. We will try to overcome all obstacles to make this a home for everyone.
The one thing that I expect from everyone is from each individual to respect our home. Please smoke outside, please do not throw any gum ANYWHERE other than the garbage...if I came to your house I would not disrespect you in either way.
Thank you for your continued support
Nevio
Fantastic post! Everybody involved with Sonic deserves a lot of credit for bringing such a unique and amazing environment to Toronto.
Thank you for an awesome night on Saturday. I look forward to spending many many more nights at Sonic.
I was not there last saturday. However, I was for the VIP Preview night. I must say, the club is stunning, and with the few finishing touches you mention, it will be top notch, and a real treat for toronto.
Props to Jeff for his hard work.
Props to NEVIO, You are a fab dj dude. love your sound. And your home (aka sonic)
Props to Morales.... well, he's just plain great.
In life there will always be negatives an positives. This club is setting a standard for toronto, and will be an ongoing project, with a bunch of us behind it
Excellent post.

I wish you the best of luck...
I can't stress enough the fact that I think advanced ticket holders getting into the club without lineups will solve an infinite amount of problems.
I look forward to enjoying sonic with you.
awesome response indeed!
May 13th will be my first outing to this space on a saturday - and this posting from Nevio - makes me even more happy about the awesome night this will be for me and all of us that will attend
VIVA LE SONIC!
WOOT!

*appluades*
Even though I've had my share of complaints; I still love the club and look forward to MANY good nights there. I knew well before this club opened up that this won't be just another club.
THANK YOU for putting your heart and soul into this, because this club is what this city needs.
It's awesome that you took the time to respond to people's complaints from Saturday. This is a great way to show your commitment to clubbers' enjoyment.
Class act post.
Thank you for listening to any concerns and dealing with them. Im impressed that changes are already in progress.
Congrats on Sonic! The club is going to be fantastic and im looking forward to many memorable times spent there.
thanks to all who Made Sonic possible.
I look forward to many more saturday nights at this venue..
I wouldn't expect anything less from Nevio.
He's put everything on the line for this venue, and for that I cant thank him enough. He has also given me the opportunity to promote for the best club in the city, and being part of the Sonic family is an honor to say the least. This building has always been my 'sunday morning home', but it has been transformed into much much more than that.
I'm glad you made this thread Nev, not because you had to, but more to let people know the amount of pride you take in your work, and especially Sonic.
Thank you for bringing a club with this stature to Toronto.
Thank you to All who were involved.

And about the gum, Saturday night was the first time in my life that I went to the bar to get a napkin every time I wanted to spit my gum out. The place was so beautiful, and I hope people do what they can to keep it that way.
I'm sure those small problems you mentioned will be dealt with and we all know that opening nights are gonna have problems...the only way you can find a problem is by opening the doors and see what happens.
I haven't been to Sonic yet but I plan to be there on the 13th. From what I've seen in pictures and heard from others it sounds like a fantastic place.
Sonic is in a great position to bring back something Toronto has been missing....a true afterhours club that all can enjoy.
Like everyone else in this thread, I want to thank you for addressing the issues of opening night. Not for me, but for the future of the club. Addressing these issues will bring me (and certainly many people) back to Sonic. I have a feeling that Sonic will be a world class venue. I would be very happy to call it my home on Saturday nights.
I'm out of town this weekend, but will be at C&C for sure.
i have never been to sonic but me and the gino crew should check it out some time for sure
