Christopher Lawrence - Subculture
Ok, I am the biggest CL fan on TA IMO. The man's sets are amazing. But aside from "rise" I have never really enjoyed a mix CD that he has done. They just dont have the energy or display the style that he normally plays live. I really think that Subculture has changed my mind. This is a great compilation of tracks. Many of them unreleased. I like how CL goes out and get tracks from farley unknown producers, Such as BIO, and plays there tracks. He was hammering BIO - Joyride for over a year, and it is still unreleased. And now a new track by them is on his new mix cd. Any way i really really enjoyed this. Thoughts>? Discuss........
1. Wrecked Machines feat. Brain XL - Hypercube
2. Nicholas Bennison - Exocet
3. One More Angel- Breathe (Motu Remix)
4. Jan Loper - I Can't Stop (Dynamic Sense Mix)
5. Askew & O'Callaghan - Game Over (Version 2)
6. Orion - Universal Ping Pong
7. Hypersonic - Crystal Wave
8. Triptych - Dance On Time
9. Z Machine - Floating In The Void
10. Astrix & Delirious - Daydream
11. Astrix & John '00' Fleming - 3rd Time Lucky
12. Astrix & Dimitri - Evox
13. Miditec - Dance 2 the Beat
14. Bio - Understand
as I already mentioned in another thread Christopher Lawrence's sound have changed over the years. He is strongly influenced by John 00 Fleming and several of the tunes in his sets can be found in J00F's set. Although CL still maintain his techy vibe which I really like.
Subculture is a good CD. alot better than the average compilations relased nowadays. Some cool unreleased tunes and some older tunes such as Evox which J00F played alot 2 years ago.
Seems like an interesting cd. Way different then the last cd I got from him years ago. I will for sure check this out.
I'll be checking that cd for sure !
I've known C.Lawrence since last May (SWIRL @ Montreal) and he's been one of my favorite DJ since. I was looking to go to Ottawa saturday for his gig, but something else comes up and I can't go
You might be the biggest fan on TA, but I, for sure, am a fan of Lawrence too
Both new stuff, and a little older.
Looks very nice, and 3rd Time Lucky is on there.
cool, i like lawrence, saw him here not that long ago, will definitely check this out

if no local stores have it you can't go wrong with amazon
This is a good CD for sure. CL is a personal friend of mine and I asked him after this CD came out about his psy influences that have come out in recent times. Busting out tracks like Astrix and Delirious - Daydream in clubs that have never heard a psy track in their existance. He told me he used to play a lot of psy back in the later 90s and then fell out of favor with it. It was not until recently when he attended a major outdoor festival in Australia that he was once again turned onto the psy because of the music that blew him away at the festival. He told me he tries the best he can to work in psy into his gigs by slowing down the tempo allowing most people to be carried by the grooving basslines but unfortunately, a lot of people just don't get it and so he holds back in this regard. Its awesome to see he is following his heart and playing what he loves.
The only reason i wouldnt buy this release was due to how old some of the tracks are. I mean Evox alone has been around for 2.5 years. The only point is i guess its not aimed at the psy market in general, who would have heard the previous releases some of these tracks appeared on.
Out of intrest Magnus what outdoor festival in Australia reminded Chris of his love of psytrance?
Bumping an old thread here from last year but I finally was able to pick this up. I just recently got back into listening to Christopher Lawrence this last month with a couple live sets after a hiatus from him for about 4 years and to my surprise he is playing much differently than he did 4 years ago. 4 years ago his bpm was much slower with a lot less energy than he has now. So I went out and grabbed this cd today and I'm blown away that I missed this cd last year. Probably the freshest cd I've listened to in a long time and the psy/J00F influences work perfectly in his newer sets. I have the hardest time keeping up with all the genres of EDM I listen to and I'm glad that I came back to check out CL and hope to try to keep up to date with him.
I really like the Subcultre cd. Just got CL's Gatecrasher live album but haven't had time to take a real listen to it yet.
does anyone else like hypersonic - crystal wave as much as I do? I first heard it in J00F's Journey Into Psy Trance and its just a bangin track
