FRIDAY JUNE 2ND
Canada's Techno/Progressive Legend
MAX GRAHAM
www.maxgraham.com :: CANADA
Producer and composer, Max Graham, is a multi-talented artist who has wowed club goers around the world and gained the respect of his peers with his diverse, but distinctive, blend of dance music. Through incredible skills and his intense work ethic, Max has risen from humble beginnings to become a worldwide recognized name.
With talents across the musical spectrum, Max is probably best known for his DJ skills and has toured nearly 50 countries worldwide. While the press has tried to pigeonhole him, Max's sound remains undefineable. He has the rare ability to refreshingly combine pure house music with his own favourite tracks from dance music genres such as progressive, techno, trance, disco and beyond. Max's trademark is a roller coaster ride of funky basslines, energetic rhythms and uplifting melodies. During this ride you are sure to hear a selection of Max's own productions, which include over 20 original tracks and more than 30 remixes.
In 2000, when Max began producing music, he showed potential and promise along with unnervingly solid talent, almost immediately. His first hits Airtight and Tell You propelled Max onto the international scene, but not before he had spent the previous ten years building his skills in the unlikely house music city of Ottawa, Canada. Although Max was born in the UK, he lived in Spain, NYC and LA before settling in Canada in 1989. Starting out as a hiphop/scratch DJ, Max discovered house music in 1994 and was hooked. Within months, he and his friends had set up their own night, which led to the opening of the now legendary Atomic nightclub. Max's weekly 6-hour sets, at Atomic, were pivotal in Canada's dance music evolution.
Early highlights of Max's career include being invited to mix the fourth installment of the legendary Transport mix CD series. The success of Transport and the subsequent world tour, in 2001, led to Max being voted #23 in DJMag's coveted Top 100 DJs poll, the highest new entry that year.
After touring heavily for two years, Max took some time off in 2003, to reflect on the music scene and his place within it. "Things were mad during those two years, I was being booked to play trance clubs when I don't play trance I was feeling disjointed and slightly out of control, flying from gig to gig without taking the time to make sure I was making the right decisions." Feeling uninspired by the direction the scene was going, Max felt he needed time away to reset and rediscover his passion for music. A trip to Southeast Asia and relocation to Montral was all that Max needed to regain his creativity and inspiration. He returned to producing in 2004, with a new sound and a fresh outlook on music.
Last year Max enjoyed success, with his smash hit Owner of a Lonely Heart; it was included on more than 10 compilations worldwide. His vocal hit I Know You're Gone, featuring Jessica Jacobs, was released in late 2005, on his own label, Shinemusic. 2005 saw more compilation signings and remix offers than ever before, including the BodyRockers and Ron Wood's (Rolling Stones) daughter - Leah. Industry giants Deep Dish took note; they asked Max to remix a track for their own label Yoshitoshi and his reworked original production Crank is due out on Yoshitoshi sometime in 2006. This year also sees Max's much anticipated (and long overdue) Essential Mix on BBC Radio 1.
Max's rigorous work ethic and uncompromised love for music has afforded him the time to both tour the world weekly and have a prolific production career. As one of the new breed of DJ's that transcends the current media created trends, he has secured himself an even brighter future.

hoochiez
i know it iz sumtimez beyond your control,but at A&B/ BT show the hoochies were out in full force,and were quite disgusting and distracting at tha same time. i hope the max area at the plush place will b cordeoned off.
i wuz at the last show he did,and the hoochies were allover him. good for him (kissiez n gropiez),but not good for us the paying partier, as he didnot focus all his attention into his set.i think i witness a hoochie hand on the mixer at one point.
thank goodness sum shows are still affordable theze days. i thank ye ph1 for bringing in great showz at great pricez.
max spun the very first night i went to a club...mind you it was atomic in ottawa (legendary)...april 2000.....he played from 2 till 6 am+. it was still probably the best set i have ever witnesssed... i was completely sober too... i will always remember that night, especially when he dropped this silly remix of moby - porcelien.....magical at 19.
discovering dance music....omfg

The worst part about those hoes and groupies at the BT show? That they were not in any force until I got off the decks. I mean what kinda hoes are they to only get up there for BT? I had nary a sniff or look at those hoes until I was safely ushered off the decks.
LAME.
I'll be out to support Max. I haven't seem him the past few times he's been here which is odd since I was out at every gig prior to that including all the free ones at 7 Alexander.
^iz ok, mang.tha hoochiez at tha BT show were juss plain fuglyyyy.imean, if they were hot,that wuld be different.. but mannnn they were like tranniez.
the hoochiez at max were nothing better,.it waz like being transported (pun intended) back to tha 80s, what wif todayz odd fashion choicez of tha hoochiez.fattt beltz and white dresses an lotz an lotz of makeup r not my thing iguesss.kinda like Homer's makeup gun.Marge sed itz like he set on whore-modez.
newayz.do u think Max will play owner of a lonly heart(or b!tch) again??hmm.i think it wuld srlsy rock if he played sum of his classicz,like AIRTIGHT.o yeeh!
the hoes at the BT show actually went in the same taxi with bt and his manager (i think)... i'm sure it wasn't for bt... he has a kid and all... but still.. they did go in the taxis (there were 2 taxis).

yess, ive herd that Bt's manager asked tha hoochies to go on stage,etc.like i sed b4, sumtimez itz beyond the promoterz controlz.
newayz,back to max show...i juss hope that the Max area iz roped off so that the hoochiez wont make it into the deckz area.but u can't predict everytingz.when he waz at tha Red rm not v.long ago,tha hoochiez wanted him,an he waz all 4 it.well,,if max wantz tha hoochiez, then what can u do?
ok, so who's all going to see max graham?

It might be worth a trip just to hear Crank being blasted...rippin' Van City a new hole.
a. im not a fan of plush from past personal experiences, and less so after hearing some of these stories (of course i take them with a grain of salt, no offense meant
)
b. i am a fan of max's work
c. my gf is in town from vernon with my kid for 1 week before she goes back up to stay with her mom for 3 weeks or so, because she has no where to live for a month while she moves into a new place, and this show is in the middle of that one week.
undoubtedly, i'd be hard pressed to to convince myself and her to go.
maybe next time guys!
bring arianna with you haha
i'll probably be coming out to this. big fan of max. it'll be my first real party in vancouver - anyone know what time the club closes or set times??? also, will it sell out?
See you guys there.. me and Downey will probably stop by
yo wassap guys, ill be there most likely on friday for this
alot of people are saying that MAx's new track CRANK is one of his best ever. The man still likes it dirty!
=====================
Max Graham seems to be all over Yoshitoshi of late, and this new release should be just that as he delivers Crank. On remix duty is the duo DJ Simi & Masterkeys.
The original is a dirty slab of huge synths and cranking acid melodies that are used to devastating effect throughout. A very subtle breakdown with light drums brings the mood down low but when the synths and the gritty acid hook are presented without the bass, the effect is huge. This has big room tune written all over it.
Following up is DJ Simi & Masterkeys with a tribal affair that is laden with gorgeous percussion while a dirty, low-end synth stab retains the quality of the original. This mix keeps things a little less hectic with hypnotic melodies and the single squelching acid stab though still a lot of fun.
This is a cranking (pun intended) release from Max and the mix compliments the bundle nicely.
Rating: 8 / 10.
danny.. let me know if u are comin.. i beg u.. i wanna buy u and greg a drink..
