Psytrance....why not?

Why doesn't psychedelic trance get more of a nod or mention here on this forum? For a forum that is devoted to trance, I've never understood this.

There is some beautiful, melodic neo-Goa being produced as well as some great tweaked and trippy psychedelic full-on. I'd go so far as to say it's one of the only sub-genres of trance left with any integrity or intelligence.

What's even more amazing to me is how people complain about the declne of the rave scene, and at a lot of the outdoor parties and psy events the old-skool rave spirit is alive and thriving.

Even on the downtempo side, psybient or chilled psytrance is incredible.

I just don't get it.

KarateKid

Psy trance is kick ass.

The only problem with psy trance nights/parties in Vancouver is that they're 110% psy/goa trance.. which gets very menotonous after a while. I've been known to drop some psy trance in my sets, but the key is to keep things interesting and mix things up. Prog house, trance, techno, psy... etc the way it should be done.

I guess this just reienforces the fact of how divided the scene is musically in Vancouver. Good music is good music.. I wish more folks would see it that way.

You won't hear any complaints from me about psy or the scene.. well the scene is weak in Calgary, you really have to look hard to the "underground" events.

But psy-trance is all I spin now.. so +1 for Psy!

dj_alucard: Psytrance has changed drastically from the days of platiups and union jack. It's arguable, but Goan trance reached it's golden zenith between 1994 and 1999 before the genre took a turn away from melodies and began to plunge into the depths of minimal and dark full-on base driven styles with more formulaic melodies. That's where a lot of the individual styles that made the genre so great started to meld together. Lately a new sub-genre is starting to emerge, the so-called neo-Goa, which is returning to Goan trance's melodic roots but with less of that raw edgy TB 303 sound. The production is much slicker and polished, but whether or not that's a good thing is to be determined.

It's much like comparing Armin and Tiesto's glory days of trance to the trance they are spinning today.

psy is good to get lost in...zone and space out...added an extra cent in there for ya.

There seems to be a lot of discussion regarding psy in the Music Discussion forum, but this one specifically? I don't know. I like a fair deal of it, and throw it on every so often, but I tend to get the impression, were I to throw out names like Koxbox, Etnica, Misted Muppet, Khetzel, et al, in this particular area where Tiestin van Corstenfold rules, I'd just get a lot of blank responses.

Save the Organix Krew, mind.

I'd have to agree with Danny. I love the psy, but after 3 or so hours it does get abit repetative. Why cant these parties cant play a bit of everything I am not sure. But I do know partying with hippies is always good times.

I am quite the opposite now.. haha.. I can listen to a trance set for more than an hour without getting bored of the big long breakdowns every single track, and switching to a bunch of Psy tunes..

I've been venturing away from Trance big time.. DnB, Breaks, Psy are what I been listening to more and more..
