Do you think the servers will slow down or crash considering lots of people are going to watch the free stream?
Posted by DaveT on May-07-2006 08:19:
I do not expect it. We have several backup plans in case GameSpot's servers have issues...beyond hitting GameSpot, once the player launches the connection for the webcast is hosted by Akamai, who is the largest streaming provider in the world (by far) and has done live events with upwards of one million simultaneous viewers.
They can handle it.

I also want to mention to everyone to checkout allgames.com durring the whole week at E3, They have a 24/7 live stream that plays video game music and they will be streaming a couple of live shows at the E3 Outpost, Which is located at the Arena Interactive Lounge in LA, You can also check out there live interactive webcam which is inside the Arena right here when its active. You can listen to there live stream right here.

I'm getting nothing.
Posted by DRM on May-08-2006 23:26:
hmmm well it could be delayed or it could be down to the stream then. been almost 30 mins now tho, and i cant imagine them delaying it all that much. Maybe gamespot didnt realise just how many of us geeks are out there!
Posted by P4z! on May-08-2006 23:35:
Gamingsites are reporting that people are still standing in line to get in, thus the delay.
Some nice music on the stream now though, opened with one of my fav. songs, Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Posted by DRM on May-08-2006 23:35:
got music and a ps logo now, it must be delayed

This is pretty common. The GDC keynotes all started late due to seating and whatnot.

The conference center is actually bigger than the one at San Jose. You'd be surprised what problems arise due to seating. This is E3. Even bigger!
By the way, the Sony keynote took about a half hour before it started at GDC.

It's so uninteresting right now.
Mainly chatter about PS2 and PSP.
PSP will get a greatest hits line, as well. Only 5 titles so far. About 8 new games shown off. Breakdancing game? Ugh.

Weak, I'm glad I can't get this stream to work...
And how can PSP have a greatest hits line... There aren't exactly a ton of awesome games in their library.
Posted by DRM on May-09-2006 00:09:
the stream + my connection are shit, im going to bed and will download tomorrow

All they were doing since the start is:
1) Statistics
2) Promoting the PS2 upcoming titles
3) Promoting the PSP as any amazingly succesful device that is constantly getting better with the firmware updates.
Finally on to PS3.
Pre-installed (removable) hard drive confirmed.
HDD will help game performance through caching and memory saves.
Playable games (PS3) will be available at E3.
Kaz Hirai intro'd Phil Harrison who into'd Kazunori Yamauchi. He's showing off 'Gran Turismo HD' a prototype made specially for E3. They basically took GT4 and upped everything for the PS3. Looks pretty, I guess. Dolby sound is crazy, though.
He's saying that games will run at 1920 x 1080p and at 60 FPS. Also saying that loading times are down to 2 to 3 seconds between selection and actual gaming. (yeah right)
Collage of Gran Turismo through the ages. [Yan's note: First person view in GT:HD is unreal... Jeez]
[Sidenote: Yamauchi was using a silver PS2 controller.]
Beta Testing for online gameplay from GT4 will be done post-E3 in Japan and US.
The next GT will be released close to the release of the PS3.
That presentation is over. Now they're showing off next gen EyeToy with a special card game (YuGiOh-type). Interesting, I guess. Looks like fun.
Harrison pulled out his own card. LOL Duck monster.
Kaz back. Talking about online and networking. "It's essential as the air that we breath."
To be honest, there isn't much new info here. They're just talking about the same crap that they've mentioned.
They're showing off PS emulation on PSP. Ridge Racer from '95 shown off. You can adjust the screen size in the games.
Harrison is back. Showing off microtransactions with what is the 'shop layout'.
They're showing off the SingStar series again. You can use the online services to download a new song + video (through purchase) for the game.
You'll be able to record your performances with a video attachment and then upload it for friends to watch. lol
Showing off fluid gameplay from Genji 2 to promote the CELL processor. You can switch characters seamlessly while battle continues. Make big chains of attacks that way. Version shown was specially made for E3 presentation. Full version available on E3 floor.
Showing off the upcoming F1 Grand Prix game. Interesting "WingMirror" demostration. PSP seamlessly integrates with PS3 to show off realtime rear view image. "Place the PSP next to your TV to keep constant tab" [Yan's note: WTF?]
Now they're showing off actual gameplay from that ninja demo that was premiered last year at E3.
Some really cool gameplay elements. Remeniscent of what God of War brought to the tray... only ninjas.
