,Please help with intro
Hi,im new to music production so i need some help figuring out if what im doing is right. Here's a sample: Sample Intro Tell me what you think and whats good and especially whats bad about it. Theres still a lot more to do for the intro this is just the beginnning. Thanks a lot, Serban.
It's just a kick and percussion pattern. Nothing really special about it. Kick could use more bam...it sounds way too round.
There isn't a right way to produce. There never is. You just have to practice and learn. That's all there is to it. You'll never get anything from anyone asking what's the right way cause no one will know how to answer that question. So...do what feels right for you.
I second that ^
Production takes time. Some learn faster than others while others take much longer if at all. As azndragon0613 said, Just practice and dont be afraid to experiment and learn.
Just a little tip though, don't post anything on trance forums which sounds severely incomplete -(such as that sample - even if it is just an intro)- You will just generate the feedback You are not looking for.
Instead, work on the kick / percussion as said or get some decent samples. Experiment with basslines and various melodies. Assign some good sounds (or what sounds good to You). Most importantly - don't rush anything - but learn in a way that is right for You!
At this stage I would just concentrate on juicing up ideas and inspiration. Read various posts on the forum, listen to your favourite trance track etc. Practice - learn - and even more practice...that's exactly how I'm doing it. Experimenting is a great way to learn
That's all I can think of for now, anyone?
I think that u should go out and buy some new records and listen to them and get some inspiration and ideas, then its up to your imagination and creativity, what happens from there.
One thing i did when i was new (im always new):P, but ad a Audio track in your sequencer, and then import a song that u really like and have it as a template, this helped me alot.
I could compare the sound in my production and the "professional" one and really hear the differens, and it also helps to train your ears.
You could also ad a Frequency Analyzer to your tempate track, to get a feeling on how the freq. works in a track.
I dont say that this is the right way for u to go, but it helped me out, so just take it as a tip and try it out.
Cheers C

Excellent suggestion!
I think looking at and analyzing frequencies is a great way to balance / fine tune a mix more proficiently. From what I have seen on various threads so far, alot of producers produce a good mix, but the mix of frequency is just all over the place...
(I run into this problem aswell most of the time), but I have alot of faith in experimenting, so when You produce a good mix You could analyze the frequency and learn how to tune the eq by actually listening to a professional mix perhaps, or research alot on forums...
And once You understand it a little better, create a template for each mix before You start (but remember every mix will sound different, because sounds have different characteristics) and more often than not will end up needing different adjustments from the last.
I think to eventually become serious, You will almost definitely need some accurate studio monitors. I have quite alot of knowledge on Producing without monitors, and from what I have heard and learnt, the mix ends up sounding different on every sound system
Where as tracks You hear EQ'd / Mastered on proper monitors sounds much more accurate and well defined. I plan to get some monitors soon hopefully
thanks a lot for the suggestions... i'll make sure i have something more substantial when i post a sample next time...
Your welcome
anything other questions You want to know, I'll do My best to help providing I know or can suggest anything - good luck with the world of Trance !
i took a listen to the sample (you say your still working on it and thats good)
but that imo is not a intro ,it was just a 16 bar loop
i also agree with the other guys keep trying and learning it will come to you.
ill just leave you with this.. try to add something else before you bring in the kick
