Exclamation The unfinished tracks share pool

Inspired by azndragon's thread I got to thinking...

I'm sure pretty much all of us have unfinished tracks and pieces of melodies that we know could become an awesome song but for some reason or another we just never seem to be able to finish them off. So, wouldn't it be a good idea to share some of those clips and see if there's anyone around here that could finish them off.

Now, obviously you wouldn't have to share the work files to everyone, you could just post mp3 clips and if someone's interested you could send the working files directly to them.

Is this a good idea or have I finally lost it for good?

i like the idea! have posted such a topic at AP a long time ago! ppl seem to like it! click link for example!

ppl could also do some remixes of the track or so! it's not unusual so see a remix, but no original track...

Its not a bad idea, but people need to keep them music copyright in case some label gets interested?
Someone may make your tune into an anthem and make a few pounds, so its only fair to make sure they get something for having the idea in the first place.
Apart from that its a really good idea; I also think that people should just post an mp3 of their tunes and if someone likes the tune enough to leave a message saying they like it and to ask to remix it.
Then just find the files and send them or just tell people they dont have the files and they will just have to improvise.

Ive made tons of tunes Ive never finished and people have told me loads of times to get them finished!!!!!!
I never have done and still have loads of Fruity flps on my hard drive. I have put three tunes on an mp3 for you to listen too.
Tell me what you think
Ps, some are a bit rough and small in length as I just wanted to get some ideas down before I made a full length tune, but I never did finish them.
let us know if they are any good.

I might be interested in unleashing a few half-baked monsters for your synth grinding pleasure. I have whole legions of them.

Well, actually, not that many... but enough.

this is shaping up to be a quality thread.

as soon as i get my new laptop, im doing some serious production. i got an FLP from azndragon, and realized how much my workflow is hampered by a small cpu/screen resolution.

right now im more or less practicing things i have learned here on the board.

SUGGESTION:

along with the MP3 clip, tell what program you are using!

Weel, the first one was trance, the second one was Techno (very German Techno I must say), and the third one was more House, though not really House. Very German sounding that one too. Tell me, were you from? ;P Acctually, come to think about it, the Trance tune sounded German too...

I totally digged, (dug?), the last one. Reminds me of the cookie monster in some mysterious way. Finish that one.

Thanks Putboy

Im from England and Im going to finish them all, I dont think I have the Fruity flp for the last tune.
Im going to redo the last tune, but Im going to put in a better bass and better percussion.
I will let you know when its finished. And thanks for the reply and having a listen to my tunes and telling me what style there are.

I can honestly say I've never started any track that I never finished. Even from the beginning and my super shitty tracks, I always finished them. I'm the same way with videogames. I won't put it down until I've beaten it. Maybe this is not a good thing I don't know but the way I see it, time is so precious that I wouldn't want any effort to be wasted by not finishing something I've put any amount of time into.

Regarding the topic though, I think its a good idea.

Great idea!
I'll upload some soon, there are so many to choose from

Well, that depends on your perception of what time well spent actually is. I feel that I can benefit from the process more than the end product. Sure, the end product is nice, but it's the getting there that made you learn, or allowed you to showcase/work on a skill or whatnot.

It's kind of like taking an academic test. Your score is representative of the effort put into learning the material, but not the effort itself.

This is a great idea, not to mention the learning curve of a lot of producers with regards to EQing, compression and so on. Long live azndragon and Mr.Mystery

Might as well start including mp3 samples instead of opinions. Here's a start.

mp3 Sample

Who wants to take a go at it?

Here's a few clips. Mostly just pieces of melody and bits of an intro that I really, really like but never could do anything with them...

I'd like to have a go at way too happy, sounds like my sort of tune. What sequencer do you work with Mystery? I'm an FL6 user at the mo.

Cheers

I got a massive amounts of unfinished tracks, I only completed a couple of tracks since I started the whole producing thing.

I'm not currently at my computer right now, but once I get home I'll post a few of my samples.

I work with Reason, so you'd have to work with midi I guess...

I don't know about you, but that kind of paranoia would cramp my creativity pretty much altogether. I make and share music because I love doing so, not because I care about my copyrights. I'm not saying I don't care at all but as long as I'm only doing it for fun I don't really see any reason to be so paranoid.

hey mystery could i have a go @ way too happy, if you could hook it up with a midi that'd be cool!

Yeah, I agree. I think copyright may be way too strong considering the reality is that most of us will never write a floor filler (The truth is harsh).
Given that there isn't massive amounts of money to be made in dance music these days as a producer I would be happy if I just had my name acknowldedged somewhere.
I'm currently working on anzdragon's melody 3, and was going to do a 'vs' thing anyway. In my eyes I see it more as free colaberation than anything else which is half the fun to me.
I get to see how other people work and in turn I expect to send back the FLP so they can see how I do things. I will probably learn more than other people but maybe I can teach someone something too.

Do it because you like it.

Cheers
