David Blaine coming out of his bubble tonight
David Blaine in 'pretty bad shape'
Magician scheduled to get out of 'aquarium' Monday night
NEW YORK (AP) -- David Blaine says he's in "pretty bad shape" as he nears the end of his latest feat -- a week in an aquarium -- but vowed to go through with his finale of holding his breath underwater for nearly 9 minutes.
The 33-year-old magician, wearing a diving helmet that allows two-way communication, has been submerged in the 8-foot snow globe-like acrylic sphere since last Monday.
"Everything is still on as planned, and I'm going to give it my best shot," Blaine said Sunday from his perch on the plaza of Lincoln Center of the Performing Arts as spectators gawked and waved at him. (Watch what Blaine said has happened to his organs -- 3:05)
Blaine's finale was to be aired live in a two-hour ABC special, "David Blaine: Drowned Alive," starting at 8 p.m. EDT Monday.
He told AP Television News he "will do his best" to complete the feat despite peeling skin, sharp pains in his joints and a severe earache. (Watch why Blaine's hairless parts take a beating -- 2:40)
The stunt artist planned to put on 150 pounds of chains and handcuffs, remove his oxygen tube and then escape while holding his breath longer than the record of 8 minutes, 58 seconds.
"If I don't get out of the chains and I black out in 9 minutes, which is about the length of time it would take these guys here (who) have been preparing a stretcher to pull my body out and do what they have to do, so I have to have faith that they know what they are doing," Blaine said.
He said he was suffering "sharp, shooting pains in every part of my body." Doctors have been monitoring his condition.
Blaine started training in December, with some help from Navy SEALS. He lost 50 pounds so his body would require less oxygen.
He has been fed and, uh, relieving himself by tubes.
Blaine's previous feats included balancing on a 22-inch circular platform atop a 100-foot pole for 35 hours; being buried alive in a see-through coffin for a week; and surviving inside a massive block of ice for 61 hours, all of which were performed in New York. In 2003, he fasted for 44 days in a suspended acrylic box alongside the Thames River in London.
David Blaine is the man, if you haven't checked out his earlier stuff I strongly suggest you do...his work is pure genius
I wouldn't call it "work" or "art" or anything like that. I'd call it insanity.
blaine is a hack, not impressed with his stuff.. Now Chris Angel. That guy blows my mind, he makes Blaine look like an amateur.
i like Cris Angels stuff.

Pretty impressive how much pain he can put himself through.
people are hard on him, but he's figured out a way to make himself rich, I think its pretty smart.
I remember when he was suspended in a plexiglass cage in the UK. It was a freakshow attraction. And here's the funny part... even though he was suspended so high ppl couldn't reach him to bother him, that didn't stop hooligans from having fun with him. Like I mess around with my cat, ppl pointed their lazer pointers at him, and started flipping out in panic thinking someone's out to get him.
Although I love magic and all that comes with it, I am not a fan of Blaines work, but Angels stuff is really good.
Ps- I didn't know Blaine was in the middle of anything right now.
I fail to see how this stuff is magic. Doesn't Blaine bill himself as a magician?
he's more of an extreme daredevil to me....
Can't we just leave him down there?

David Blaine is awesome.
I hate Chris Angel aka, mind freak.
Am I the only one that doesn't care at all about David Blaine. I find him annoying.
im sorry but he is amazing! everytime ive watched a special of his my mind is blown by the stuff he does. crazy shit.

okay did anyone just see that trick he did where he took that girls teeth out?!?!? wtf!!! that was awesome
how can you not like this stuff? it shows how a person can take their body to the limit, with training, and learning to control their mind to a point where pain doesnt feel like the pain it should. if you dont find that amazing, then wtf DO you find amazing??
btw, he does magic, but he also does stunts, and he doesnt call this thing magic, he calls it a stunt. he can do both.
chris angle, you just see him doing magic, let him try this stuff, he will probably fackin die.
maybe chris angle should go in the water for awhile, wipe that fackin make-up off his face
I don't deny the fact that he's talented. Especially at spoofing ppl with that levitation crap. I think this underwater thing is obviously not a hoax, I just don't find it interesting though. I think it's too much hype.
