Unhappy

that really sucks

Manny & co. seemed to have a good thing going

Posted by Konijn on May-09-2006 02:12:

respect to the one14 crew for trying to make a go of things with trance bookings even though they knew that financially they'd take a hit.

this just shows how weak trance is right now, and how when armin says things like "trance is bigger than ever" he's deluding himself: things are bigger than ever for the top 5 djs, but below them is an entire stratum of good djs that could barely fill out a bar mitzvah -- therein lies the rub...

Found out early Monday morning...this saddens me to see such a great venue with a guy as classy as Manny come to a close. Since I started my residency first thursday nights in the fall, then Saturday nights for the last few months, the people, staff, and especially Manny have always treated me and the supporters of EDM with such respect and appreciation, makin me feel as if I belonged to a family.

There was some amazing talent that played at one14 this passed few months, and I am very fortunate that I had the opportunity to play the same night or even alongside them.

So with that, I want to thank Manny for the opportunity at one14, and wish him good luck in his future endeavors. The scene could use more people like Manny.

Cheers - ryan

***A side note-- Sean Tyas will still be making his return to Philadelphia SATURDAY, May 20th, however he will be playing at Emerald City, not one14. More details will be announced asap.

Manny, thanks for all of the good times and bringing a fresh breath of air to the Philly scene. Going to miss the basement. Good luck with everything in the future.

I guess I got out of there at the perfect time because Philly's scene is complete shit now.

Yea, this was a really good thing. To see someone like Alex MORPH here in the states was a once in a lifetime truly.

Move to New York though, Manny. You would have more sucess here

Page 3 of the forum that kadomony linked us to is Manny's official post. To make it short, Manny's father in law owns the building and told him to close it last night.

that sucks I mean this just trance partys I highly doubt drugs and crazy things going on

Emerald City is shutting down soon enough too. Suppossed to turn into a restaurant or something.

Posted by LuNaSeA on May-09-2006 03:26:

that musta been some serious drama to have it closed down immediately like that. and drama involving family members? yipe!

Posted by djy2g33 on May-09-2006 03:43:

From that page on philly forums:

quote:
Unfortunately, it's true. My father in law, who actually owns the building and the licenses told me last night that he wanted operations seazed immediately. As bad as I feel, I have to honor his wishes as he is really the boss. Unfortunately I put a lot on trust in people that never deserved it and in the end we all loose out. I take full responsibility for what happened at One14, because at the end of the day, things happened right under my nose. I was too stupid to see it and too trusting to realize my own friends would do such things, but such is life..
I wanted to call and speak with everyone on my staff personally, so they would hear it from me, as they deserve nothing less, unfortunately, when I got home last night it was a bit late and I only called 3 people to let them know and I figured I would call everyone else this morning. But, once you tell one person it spreads like wildfire and the rumors start flying. So for those members of my staff that found out through a text message or through a bulletin board; I'm sorry. I have been on the phone all morning trying to get to everyone that is affected by this, but I guess rumors travel quicker than my long apologies.
On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone that I've had the honor and privilege of working with over the past 2 years. It has a been a pleasure and I thank you for welcoming me to a city that wasn't my own and embracing me and supporting my efforts and dreams. I did my best pushing for what I believed in and so dearly love, but I guess my timing was wrong. I'm not sure what the future holds for me, but I have my family and some great friends, and some amazing memories from One14 that I will forever treasure and hold very dear.
So, a heartfelt thanks for the privilege to be a part of your scene and allowing me to express myself.

Humbly;

Manny

personally, i could care less if this place closes down...
great place for parties and a home to many great phila. dj's...
but over time, it's just gotten nastier and nastier
we need to start looking for a new major venue

but losing one14 was a huge bummer
i loved everything about that place!
esp. the eden room
many good times were had and will be remembered from here

I agree that Em City is a dump, but if it closes where are you going to go late night? 125 blows because its way too small. Transit is ghetto. Mansion seems to have a weird crowd, plus it feels like its someones house. Pulse is tiny. I think thats it for afterhours places, right???

Yeah you're absolutely right...
*Lesigh* I just wish we had a classier venue with toilets that work, non-makeshift DJ set-ups in the backroom, and *good* drinks served in actual glasses!

I like Transit, if it only had decent sound. Actually if any club in philly had decent sound....

it is really sad to hear this about one14. I started hearing about the place last winter and had been meaning to get down there. tried to a couple of times and then things came up and I couldn't. They certainly had a lot of great names coming in there.

I hope the Philly scene will pick up. it's a great area. Hate to see it slowing down like that.
