Vinyl/CD/MP3 What medium is best?
Hi All,
I am very interested in knowing which medium is the Publics choice?
I personally love vinyl, for the feel and the sound. I enjoy mixing on turntables a lot more than CD Players but i am constantly using CDJ's for all my pre release material, I also download mp3's but would prefer the physical product...
I know this question has been asked before but now with downloads fully established I would like to hear peoples feedback...
Thanks in advance
Brisky
Can't beat the plastic. Mp3 shouldn't even be an option.
CD
You would rather buy a finshed cd? and if so where do you buy them from?
Would it be useful if all digital releases were available for CD Release with company branding and packaging?

Cheers mr Mystery, same for me

CD/Mp3 for the simple fact that I can get 10 Mp3's for the price of about 2 vinyl records.
nothing beats the crackle of a vinyl.
^Something, I can most definately agree with you on. Nothin' beats vinyl.
WAVs
CD for sure. vinyl is crap IMO and mp3s just don't cut it. wavs could be ok, but it's illegal to play them out in finland, so the only format for me really is CD. on special occasions though i've bought mp3s and wavs, but i don't like buying them. i've bought them because the tunes have not been available on CD and i've really loved them and i'll never in my life play out most likely, so the legal thing kinda doesn't affect me. but still i'd like to be able to play out if i'd ever have the chance, but i couldn't do it if all my tunes were bought mp3s/wavs.

anyway i much prefer CD to mp3/wav, even if it were legal to play those out.
tapes
In order or preference....vinyl, cd, 8 track, wax cylinder, cassette, Wav, Mp3.
CDs because you can easily play and transport them even if you aren't DJing. Not to mention the price. I can't imagine paying a fortune for a record collection and only be able to play it on my turntables.
Vinyl has about another year or 2 left in it. It's time to move beyond the 1970s.
nothing beats buying a record and holding it in your hands as you put it on the platter.
but mp3s are cool don't get me wrong

what do you mean "the rest of us"?
I'm not claiming you have to agree with my preference.
I've bought vinyl/cds/mp3s, and I like buying vinyl the best. That's it. Does it matter to me if you want to? No.
I always get frustrated at how quickly my CDs get scratched. I try to take good care of them but I listen to my music when I'm on the move, and they just wear away.
I have all of my fathers Records from the early 70s / late 60s, outstanding albums from Pink Floyd, The Doors, The Who, Led Zep etc..., and I also have them on CD. It is more fun listening to them on vinyl BY FAR. I don't know why. I don't know if its the process of setting up the record player and appreciating the music more or what, I just love listening to the records. I plan on hanging onto them forever. I feel that way about a few CDs, but its not the same.
I don't know how ppl handle big record collections though, I have maybe 100 records and its too much.
All this and more right here --->

It's ashame you guys still don't get the difference between analog and digital. Remember most EDM music before going through the pressing process whether it'd be cd or vinyl must come from a master source and that happens to be a DAT tape. From that very DAT tape is where the CDs or vinyls are recorded from. Both sound exactly the same.
This is true for most EDM records recorded after 1990. Before that era most vinyl was recorded from a reel to reel tape which is an analog recording source. This is where the the argument begins. Analog vs. Digital, not vinyl vs. cd since they both come from the same source which is the DAT tape I was talking about earlier.

I buy mp3's now. I agree that I can get 10 mp3's off of beatport for an A and B side
I need to sell most of my 600 records I had been collecting since 2000
Buying and playing vinyl doesn't make you "old school" nor does it make you cool. It simply demonstrates that much like your parents lamenting the demise of a time or item gone by, that you are stuck in the past.
Like it was said before, sound is sound, vinyl is not necessarily a "warmer" sound (due to analog) as many would like to claim. It the same sound on different forms of media - anything that you would like to claim otherwise is a minor form of delusion to convince yourself otherwise. Those dinosaurs who are stigmatizing Ableton, CD's and MP3's hurt the evolution of music by insisting that a 95 year old technology is "better" than a 5 year old technology.
I still have crates of vinyl at home and have no problems buying and playing vinyl - but lets face it: CD's and Mp3's are not only more portable, cheaper and replaceable (burning a track on a new CD when it cracks or gets scratched) but they are also much more versatile (Final Scratch, Ableton, etc.).
Vinyl is a 95 year old technology. Time to embrace the future.
