Question What Happened To The Crowd Noise In Sets?

Sets these days seem to be recorded straight from the mixer. I haven't heard a good quality set in a while with pure crowd noise.

Any recommendations?

Sasha & Digweed - Live @ Renaissance 2005

They're terrible quality, but there's crowd noise in the UMF 7 sets by Ferry and PvD

I hate crowd noise so much... Theres nothing worse than when your trying to enjoy a set and some fagnut is whistleing away like hes doing us a favor and helping out the DJ.

Man that shits me...

The whistle would be annoying, and stupid air horns.

But crowd noises own!

LOVE them! Hearing peiple enjoying the night and going nuts for tracks they love.

I agree. but there are times when crowd "noise" can be pure pwnage. an example of this is when Oakie turned off the sound in Silence on one of his EMs and the crowd sang along. thats crowd noise bliss right there...

I also have this really piss poor Hawtin set where it sounds like someone basically was sitting there amoungst the crowd with a microphone recording the set... You can hear the people yelling to each other over the tunes...

I miss crowd noise.

Creamfields 2000 (seb fontaine, tong, oakenfold) my absolute favorite set with crowd noise.

The way a set is recorded can make it or break it.
Sets like oakenfold @ creamfields 99, PvD@energy 2003, PvD@Amnesia 2002 all have good crowd noise which gives the sets a way better atmosphere.

Without crowd noise you may as well be listening to a radio show!

Crowd noise during breakdowns are cool.

taken from askews website:

"On Saturday 12th August 2006 legendary UK club night Passion will play host to the recording of the 2nd Live as Fuck album. Both Johns and Matt Hardwicks sets will be recorded on the night for the double CD release which is scheduled to be in the shops by the end of September. i remember Marco V from sensaton 2002, when he dropped Simulated at the end of his set... crowd really went nutts

i really like it when the crowd is going crazy and i can hear it.

crowdnoises are only really annoying when you can hear individual voices over all the others. like in tiesto's crasher NEC set from 2003, there's this one gimp that keeps on shouting "go tiestoooooo" right next to the microphone. that aside i love hearing it, whistles, airhorns & all (providing they aren't too close to the mic) and love that low quality compressed echoey sound the music comes out as

cosmic gate @ trance energy 2003 has some very nice crowd noise
