Dumb pitbull ban faces constitutional challenge
Good! I hope this law is struck down. I also hope that many more laws that have been passed see a similar fate.

| Ontario's controversial pit bull ban faces a constitutional challenge in court next week, with renowned lawyer Clayton Ruby expected to argue the law is too broad. Ruby is acting on behalf of Catherine Cochrane who owns a pit bull and wants the law struck down as unconstitutional. Cochrane has mounted the challenge with the support of the Banned Aid Coalition, a group of five dog organizations trying to defeat breed specific legislation in Canada. The Dog Owners' Liability Act, with the ban, came into effect last August. Attorney General Michael Bryant who brought in the act, said he's confident the ban will survive a challenge in Ontario's Superior Court of Justice on Monday. Bryant said the law, which put in put place hefty fines and jail time for violators, was carefully crafted. The ban requires pit bulls to be muzzled in public, leashed and sterilized. It also bans the breeding of pit bulls. Last month, a Sarnia woman successfully fought a charge under the ban by arguing her dog was not really a pit bull breed. |
interesting...
have they said on what grounds they claim the law to be unconstitutional?
the problem I've read is exactly that which allowed that last woman to successfully fight the charge...i.e. that the term "pit bull" is vague and refers to a large number of breeds/types of dogs. I see it as being easy enough to defeat the law in the same manner as with this particular case...but I'm just curious as to how the law is actually being deemed unconstitutional in this pending case.
Comming from someone that works at a vet clinic i think the band has two side of it i have met some really sweet pitbulls and on the other hand there are some really nasty ones out there.
It is all how they are brought up its the want ta be drug dealers that are training theses dogs to protects there houses for the contents in them so it is not the dogs fault Its who owns them.
And its not only pits they are going to be going after Dobermans Rottie and any tuff looking breed ( because its how surtin people are bring them up),and on the most part the breeds that bite the most are the tiny yappy ones ( they fear bite) and that is the worst
I for one certainly hope the law gets defeated. A whole breed getting banned because of certain owners/dogs is discrimination as far as I can tell. Mind you, I'm not against trying to control these types of dogs if they are a menace, but to ban the whole breed...
This law is the dumbest shit in the world. My dog sort of looks like a pitbull, its an American Bulldog though, and I always get these retarded people coming up to me and telling me to muzzle my dog, some go as far as saying theyll call the cops. I was even a second away from punching some guy out in a dog park before some other people jumped in.
Dogs are Dogs, and just like people there are good and there are bad. Except with dogs nurture comes into play way more than nature.
My dog is no angel, shes extremely protective and you do not want to screw around with her. But she loves kids, and once she lets a person close to her she will lick him/her head to toe.
Ive seen a fucked up poodles and have even been bitten by one when I was a kid
. To ban a dog breed is like to ban black people because they seem more violent. Its stupid and I can't believe that my tax money actually pays salaries to retards that come up with this shit.
id tell those people to mind their own business...
Maybe id say something like, "your haircut is offending me, cut your hair or ill call the cops"
I think some people just have nothing else going for them in life so they have to butt in.
I hope its defeated.
Honestly.
