is your neighbour being a *******?
I havent been able to play records at all anymore, my neighbour keeps knocking at my door for me to put the voice down, and shes bein a total bitch about it, does anyone have the same problem? now i dont wanna built a soundproof wall since im moving out in 3 months, but does anyone have any tips that could help me out for this summer, is there anything that you can stick on the wall which will atleast just make the sound thats going thru lower (which i assume there isnt), and i cant move the setup to another room, the only space for it is where it is now. hmmm or should i keep playing loud music and make her move out :P

Egh do you have PAs or Monitors? Cause I was assuming you had PAs because those usually have more problems with sound traveling, reverberation...high decibels/volume...
i have the exact same problem .. i live in a university hostel.. so yeah.. i get alot of complains.. when i mix i dun even turn my volume up that loud .. then my neighbour knocks on my door.. complains to reception .. then once a cop even came up to my room.. by hell i didn't care.. the more they complain = making me more pissed off = me blasting my music more ..
once the ass even had the guts to knock one my door and complained even though i wasn't mixing on that day and i was actually sleeping .. guess she is used to blaming all the noise on floor at me .. im also moving out soon .. so rite now .. im being considerate .. u know leave on a good note... and mixing more with my headphones than my cheap and crap monitors..
i know how u feel man.. sound will travel.. no matter if u get PA systems or monitors.. they will still travel but not so much if u get monitors.. in my case.. getting monitors won't be any use.. coz the rooms are right next to each other.. and the walls seem to be hollow.
Carpet all over the place. Im pissed because I dont get ENOUGH bass in my new apt because it absorbs the sound!
I have never had it... I am suprised by this though considering I live in a terrace house... One good part is my next door neighbours to one side have a pissweak band... So I assume we have an unspoken agreement that we can both have it as loud as we want.
Im lucky, my neighbours have never said anything. I play loud music untill 10-11 oclock usually. But my bedroom is pretty distant from either neihbours house.
funny i have never had the problem!
lol must be just ozzies that like it!
Speaking as someone who is slightly older than the average TA I can say that I see it this way.
If you are constantly disrupting someone elses life even though they asked you to take them into consideration then you are being a jerk off.
In a university dorm, people are going through a process that will shape the rest of their lives and need peace around them to put in their time to get the best result.
Mix through your headphones if you have to, it's not going to be forever. When I'm not in a club I like to do it this way as I find it the easiest method to get fully absorbed in the music and picture how it will work when I play it out.
On the other hand, some people get really anal about noise and use any opportunity to make a mountain out of a mole hill. They are jerk offs too...
You have had the sense and motivation to ask and research ways in which you can help improve your own situation as well as those around you. That makes you a good human being.
Cheers

I live in an appartment house and I sometimes listen music pretty loud, my neighbours haven't said anything though... I usually start putting the volume down at 9 or 10.
Some old neighbours, who have moved out already, played music pretty damn loud sometimes. I could hear the music very well here in my room. It was fun for a while but when it lasted longer, it started to suck. Especially when they listened bad music (IMO) all the time :|
My neighbours are just as bad as I am, so no worries there
Seriously, though, I only play loud during the daytime, after 9-10 I drop the volume or play through the phones.
I'm lucky, I live in a building surrounded by construction (they are still finishing some of the flats in it as well) so no one gives a fuck. I imagine next year I will have problems and am already thinking of ways I can score free egg cartons.
The neighbours across the street from me sometimes have realy loud chees trance/dance playing late at night but nomatter what the music is and nomatter how loud it is i can sleep through it though, it doesnt bother me.
I remember once they had some kind of celebration that went for 3 days and for 2 or 3 nights they had percussion playing untill around 6am. Bongos and stuff. It was just on a off and sometimes it was realy out of time. I think all the relatives just swapped around.
Just play music during the day stop around 9-10. Fuck people at dorms though. They know where the library is.

I hear ya.
Some people as I said are indeed oversensitive.
You may also want to look into what your rights are and what the building says about it.
Most likely it will probably say that you are not allowed to disrupt anyone with music.
However I know some buildings list decibel amounts between certain hours, in which case you could probably do a test and then if someone says something you can refer to that.
I'm really sensitive to excessive noise myself which is fucking weird for a nightclub DJ.
Best of luck with it eitherway.
Cheers
Nem

I have lots of troubles because of my neighbour who has a bedroom near my room (I live in a flat). He and his wife are about 70 years old and are complaining about the music all the time, though I drop the volume after 9. The madafucking police visited me 2 times in 14 days.
Im actually suprised mine havent bitched in a long time and Ive gotten louder. Ive been doing a lot of recording and such with new speakers and they havent said a word.

Got neighboors problems?
Forget egg cartons, carpet and
foam.
Cement and Bricks are the way to go.
