The 2006 TOTA Camping Thread

The summer is upon us and it's time to head out of town and get some camping in before winter strikes again. So, who's going... and where are you going? Care to share any good spots, tips or resources? List them all in this thread.

If anyone wants to get together for a TOTA camping trip I am open to that as well. Any suggestions?

Here's an old thread I found with some good reviews of campgrounds and other usefull information: CLICK

I would love to go camping this summer.

I also hate campers in CS.

So far this is what I have planned:
- Elora (Grand River area)
- Algonquin

But there's room for lot more. Mako.. how about a khalalala camping trip?

If I don't go to Danny T @ Stereo, I'm going to the Sandbanks in Kingston on June 15-18. I've heard it's quite a fun place. We had to book our site in like February, so it must be pretty good!

Sandbacks is awesome. I've never been camping there, just passed through on a day trip. You're gonna have a blast!

lol. Damn man that would be a wicked trip. Wait, wouldn't we need to find a desert first? lol.

But shisha + forest + lake beaches = best camping ever.

That's the best part. Nothing but nature to cheer you on.

Can't wait to go camping this summer. Last summer I only had a chance to go once. Went to Oka national park in quebec. Pretty cool place. Anyone know of good places to camp, that have sites spread out widely from each other, and are in the woods?

Posted by LucasMead on May-10-2006 19:00:

I haven't been to alonquin yet but want to , elora is amazing. the best place i've been has been Beausoliel Island you need a boat to get to it and its all sand bar. another good place is Giants tomb the water is clearer but i'm not sure you can camp on it. Both of these places are on Georgion Bay and are 20min away from eachother and 10 min from the mainland.

I got a question for you... it says on the Elora website "Alcohol is NOT permitted at this conservation area". Does that mean the campsites too?

Try Bruce Peninsula which is a national park. I remember the sites being more spread out than some provincial parks I've been to.

I camp in Algonquin Park quite often (I live uber close to it). There are lots of nice spots there and amazing hiking trails. and i am pretty sure you can have beer...but you have to have it in a container - like an empty 2L pop bottle (that's what i usually do anyways). don't quote me on that though lol.

This summer I am hoping to go to Auyuittuq National Park near Pangnirtung and Qikiktarjuat, Nunavut so I can do some mountain climbing!

I am going up to the Upper this summer near our place on Lake Superior and maybe over to Pictured Rocks for 4th of July weekend. Other than that, I'm heading to the Rockies this fall so booya on camping out there!!

Long Point is my favourite place, becuase it has by far the BEST beach in Ontario. White sand, clear water, and it's HUGE.

Plus, the park workers wave at you as they drive by on their ATVs as you pour your next beer while leaning back in your beach chair

Posted by shanny on May-10-2006 23:20:

My personal fav is The Pineary in Grand Bend...

They do have dry weekends when no booze is allowed though.

Posted by Sasha on May-10-2006 23:21:

The only time during the year when alcohol is not allowed in most of the Provincial Parks is May 12 to May 22

If anyone is looking to buy a tent you might wanna check out the Sears online store. They're having some pretty good deals right now. LINK
