Omer Golan...any good?

My team (Sheffield united) are rumoured to be buying Omer Golan (forget who he plays for) and wondered if anyone here has seen him play and would he be any good in the Premiership???

Oh yea I don't understand Hebrew!

(Altho I think I know a website that will translate it!)

Cheers

This is a hebrew site about him with details
http://www.one.co.il/c.aspx? target...6%26nocache%3D1

basically he plays for Macabbi Petach-Tikva,
He is a good CF.

Well if he comes to us it's not like he'll be fighting for a place in Manchester Utds starting line up!

We'll be battling near the bottom of the league all season against relegation!

he can developing to a very nice striker in prem..very good signing for shefield..

I suggest you to buy Maxi Lopes from Barcelona

It's not Football Manager, you can't buy any player you like

Anyway, Omer got a good head game if I remember correctly, he's pretty tall, fast player...
Can be a great signing imo..

in my case it would be selling.. im just felling pitty for him.. so i suggest teams to buy him..
who do you support? Haifa? T-A? tell the manager to buy him..

Posted by Glenn-Holmes on May-11-2006 22:06:

omer golan should develop more to be a great striker - he has the talent and the phisical advantages to become a good premeir-league scorer - i think that signing in for a long time contract can benefit both omer and shefield in the long run - first season i dont expect him to do much - if he'll work hard enough like our israelian defender for example - tal ben haim who plays for bolton wanderers and started on the first year on the bench but improved himself and worked hard and today he is an essential member of their defence and he is only in his second year there

back to omer
he is young (23 i think) and he had this year one big game that have raised the expectations from him regarding his potential to higher levels - that was the game of maccabi petah tikva (his team) against partizan belgrad in uefa cup's first round

in israel petah tikva have lost 2-0 and the second game in belgrad seems meanning less - but not to omer who came and emberassed time after time the local tough defence leading his team to a sensational 5-2 victory on their way to a the group stage (_where they've lost all 4 games) - omer had a personal hat-trick against partizan - not the easiest team to play against in their own stadium in front of their own audience

overrated imo

Ok thanks everyone that replied, your messages have been passed onto the Sheff Utd fans!

Seems to be mixed feelings about him but I think we've been after him for a while (apparantly his club didn't want to sell him before the end of the season cos they were fighting it out near the bottom of the league and needed him??)

Posted by m0sh on May-12-2006 05:53:

i dont remember why they didnt want to sell him...in fact golan's father was pissed at his team not giving him a chance...and hes right...I don't like him but people seem to think he's good...

he is a talented scorrer - i dont like a few great players but that doesnt mean they are not great players

Golan's Not good enough !!! It's true that he had a great season last year (2004-5) and at the beginning of season 2005-6 but then he disappeared ! I think that he has a very good agent and that's the reason for the interest....
If he'll move to England he would be like Yaniv Katan - a bench player ( ?)...

It's not only Katan - there's a long list of great Israeli players who didn't make it abroad especially at England - Itzik Zohar, Alon Hazan, Walid Badir, Idan Tal and even the king Avi Nimni....

In my opinion, all of them were better then Golan....but hey - after all it's all luck...

luck?
give me a break
israeli players dont like to work hard for along time without seeing any results in the near future
all of the names you've mentioned came back to israel after half season abroad - i'm sure that at least1-2 of them could have make it to first team when they were playing out of israel if they only had patience
ig omer golan will move to england and won't give up after first year he can succeed much more than all the players you've mentioned above
im sure about it

omer golan

omer golan can be very successful in the premiership, just look at some past israeli's have played in the this league like eyal berkovic and yossi benayoun currently at west ham. golan can make a big impact he only 22 and can learn alot to become a better striker in the premiership

You're right few Israeli players did make it....Eyal Berkovic and Benayoun and Roni Rozental and even Avi Cohen back in the 70's-80's.
Anyway according to the papers in Israel Golan stays here at least till Januar.....
P.S Finally Newcastle will succeed !!!!!!!!!! with our old-new manager !!!
