German Tastes.

This thread was inspired by the North american Sven appreciation thread that got closed.Although i dont speak German, I've been looking at this section of the board and actually wondering what the German tastesin electronic music are like today.Montreal used to be a huge techno town, and right now is more more progressive house/electro.Other than trance, what is biggest in the clubs there.Going to see Alex Bau here next week, now all we need is liebing beyer and vath

Sorry for the english, but your input would be appreciated.Europes sounds are very different and i like to explore tham as well.

atm germany is house, techno, minimal and more or less alot of niches of electronica

detroit is the nearstes where canadians can get chris liebing for the moment. years ago I met people from chicago/detroit, they told me they'll do partytravelling within north america and canada like some gta's do in europe too.

I have seen Liebing a few times here...Such energy, and i love how he searches thew crowd for people to pass him joints.He played at Swirl here last year and for many it was the set of the year.The problem is that Montreal used to book many Techno Dj's and the price for their bookings is now insane.We also had our tech scene get big here through local artists like Pheek,Matteo Murphy,Preach,Mistress Barbara...
but tech is changing.

I saw Speedy J do a live PA set at aria(an afterhours club here)a few years back and it was amazing.Alex Bau is releasing a Live @ Aria CD comp, but i dont think its on the CL label.

Montreal has a more active scene than Detroit, but Detroit remains the capital of tech in North america, because of the movement that Hawtin and others started there.We have a festival called Mutek here every year, that has artists do live acts via laptop its amazing.I am really looking forward to Germany's Modeselektor.Also a big outdoor piknik with Hawtin and Villalbos coming soon.

Keep your input coming Germany...im very interested in visiting your country and would like to know as much as i can.Trance is dead here..Toronto is the North American capital for Trance.

yea, whatever rocks his boat! good for business and popularity, i guess. czech is not too far away ... but i'm sure you can find him pretty much anywhere in germany's backyard. sven and chris liebing would be great...just need to find out when & where.

Germans love beer so we would get along nicely, plus i have a newly acquired EU passport that is just itching to be used

Montreal has a pretty nice techno scene from what I remember, but I have not been up there in ages, mostly due to living in Pittsburgh now (~10 hour drive each way). I would certainly recommend to go to DEMF this year, there seems to be a lot of good stuff..

What i really want to know is if i plan a trip to Germany, what are some of the clubs and activities that i must not miss?

i think cocoon club frankfurt with sven v�th will be a good choice but i've never been there.

thursday nights in weekend club berlin with tiefschwarz is usually pretty good http://www.week-end-berlin.de/

also pulp mansion in berlin is a really cool location but they rarely have good lineups. but if they do it kicks ass

and of course like the other guy already said, berghain is the most famous club here. very nice pa but a lot of homosexuals (like the big muscular *lets kiss each other* type ) and hard to get in sometimes when big dj's come
