QUOTE "Musically, Canada is about 4 years behind us...."
My Uni had Anne Savage again this year for our Christmas ball. In a post-gig interview, she was asked the question:
INT: "Do you play much in the USA?"
AS: "I don't play as much as I would like in the USA, but when I do, I also play Canada. Musically, they are about four years behind us, but it's always great to play there..."
Now I don't agree with this, just wondering what everybody else thinks.
PLEASE DONT GRILL ME - I DIDN'T SAY IT
i can see where she's coming from, i mean most of the people over there who like trance are probably classed as underground.
and they all like PvD which is 4 years behind
hehe
well what i heard canada does get music later (later released etc,,) but i wouldn't say 4 years
, but i guess canada just has te wait i little bit longer on the new releases etc.. don't know how long thow ...
4 Years behind.........must be sarcasm. She did say, she enjoys playing here which is a plus. We are loved plain and simple. We are maybe 2-3 months behind because things always get released later in north america. Oh well, her comments don't bother me.
Keep in mind she did mention USA too. And if by "musically" she means dance music then yes, we are a little behind... I guess she just assumes underground dance is the only genre of music.
Anne Savage talks shite... which is probably due to all the charlie she snorts! OK, Canada may not be as up to date as England and such places, but I wouldn't say four years! If any country's musically retarded, it's France. I know this cos I lived there! As far as music is concerned, France is so far behind it's nearly prehistoric! If there is 1 country that I don't like going clubbing in, it's France. I mean come on....Zebda?! Doesn't exactly insipre you or make you wanna throw your hands in the air! I reckon less than 1% of the French population have heard of Trance...let alone ever heard a (decent) trance tune!
Sort it out France! Eiffel 65- Blue is not cool!
lateRZ,
barryfigiel
PS I don't mean to insult any of the French people on these forums... they have obviously found good music or they wouldn't be here!
We're behind but not that far. Most ppl don't know anything about Trance either
It's all Rap/Hip Hop.
she means its popularity etc. over here a lot of it is commercialised and/or popular throughout the country, whereas i presume trance clubs and places selling trance music are few and far between in canada and the usa.
I think she was on about the scene itself (rather than the tunes) and she's probably right aint she? I dunno to be honest, never been there.
i dunno about behind, there's just simply no trance scene on the west coast. the average person is highly "anti-trance" because they think its not cool anymore and went out with atb in 99.
yups...
yeah, i hear ya patticus...for some odd reason house is really big 'round here. we seem to be getting alot of house headliners lately.
as for the 4 years behind, does she mean the political and media backlash towards the scene? i know it's alot more accepted in europe but how long ago did they have problems of police harrassment and restrictive bylaws and stuff? is that what she means?
Laughing my arse out...
Now first of all who the fuck is Anne Savage and who the fuck she thinks she is?
Although the population in Canada is about 7-8 million, a meagre number compared to the 300 million in the United States, there's no reason for anyone at all to say that we are lagged by 4 fucking years....oh my god!
Considering the world wide web being available to virtually anyone in this technological era we all live in, we are practically without boundaries, not to mention nationality.
Music is spread by forums, advertisements, simple forms of communication by the a person's mouth to another.
Saying that Canada is "behind by 4 years" is totally outrageous to a Torontonian..considering the scene we have here, I would say that we are top-notch alongside with UK and USA.
Trance began to surge really big in Japan last year due to Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Above and Beyond's live appearance...now this statement, for example, is strong enough for any Japanese to flame me.
My point to this all is that either Anne Savage is a cooped-up deadbeat who has been shutting "himself" indoors for the last 4 years and maybe she has been a victim of the Bermuda Triangle...there's no fucking way that we are behind that long..unless she's a DJ who spins 4 years ahead of anyone else in the whole world. There shows to go how discriminating a person can get....
It just pisses me off when some wannabe beat-matcher who talks shit like that.....pure stupidity...full stop!
Anne Savage is one of the most famous Hard House Djs in the world.
About the cop harassment yes the pigs still bother British clubs from time to time, the occasional raid, no clubs been forced to shut for a while though, Home was the last one to be ordered to shut, but I think there was something sinster involving that club being shut as the bloke who owned it used to part own cream and how a row with his partner who now owns Cream, media creates bullshit stories about drugs still, but we don't break into warehouse no more or have illegal events underneath the M25, and we go to clubs not raves, btw raves died here in 1995, we call outdoor events dance festivals.
I would say 4 years is wrong, maybe a year in my books, thing is though I think you have a nice healthy dance scene and have good Djs, but I think most of North America has the brains warped by MTV not you guys though as your on here
, meaning nu metal, hip hop, pop and R n B will always be bigger. I don't think it will ever be like Europe, but you will have a good scene you certainly get visited by a lot of good Djs in Canada, I just don't think it will be like here though but quite close, either way I think its having a boom in North America at the moment Dance music, you get some good Djs, and you've got some good people spinning like Max Graham, and even if you have anti trance people over there, we had people like that over here in 1998 so its old news every music has its haters, maybe the trance scene there is not as big as Europe but I see a lot of Canadians listening to dance music on here, also remember Europes been getting blasted by dance music since 1988 so people have grown up with it, also europes a small continent so Djs find it easier to visit us, our cities are close togther so they can get to more clubs in a night, thats probably why we seem to have it more lucky then you guys, enough from me. Peace

there are about 25 mils in Canada.
LOL, Anne Savage is a crackhead.
I remember a funny story that a buddy told me one time. He works at as a dj at a club here called Turbo. There was this time when they brought in Anne Savage ...and she was either all crack out or something, because she couldn't do anything right,
she couldn't beatmatch, started complaining about the system, etc..
She went completely ballistic.
She went bonkers and ran and
hid in the back corner while she's suppose to be mixing. All the res djs there and staff wondered what the hell she was doing.
haha fire999 7 or 8 million in vancouver???? LOL
that's like the population of your city maybe...
canada i think is around 27+ million now..
i duno, anne savage can throw down a wicked set tho, her 2001 essential mix was NON HARD HOUSE, trance and prog, verrrry coool!!
i was surprised.
OMG...Wrong Facts...lol
Sorry sorry sorry...man...and I call myself a Torontonian..lol...
The population of Canada is in fact about the 30 million...29.7 on last year's census...man...I apologize for that mistake....
See....everyone makes mistakes....I just felt that Canada should not be labeled as slow....
As for Anne Savage, I guess she must have said that on a slip of tongue...
Anyways, that childish rage was uncalled for...I apologize...everyone's entitled to their opionions I guess..I just have to learn to relax before I start having tyroid....
Peace..
i can't speak for Canada, but as far as the u.s. is concerned, we are behind w/ the new releases.. if i didn't come to this board, i wouldn't know about most of this new stuff for a long time.. at least 3-4 months or when other dj's start throwing it in their sets.. but since our electronic scene is morphing itself into house driven, its hard to find a dj that is really up-to-date w/ the current european new releases.. i guess i'll have to elect myself as that person

Hell, in Singapore we're musically in the prehistoric age.
Literally.
